Cold Hearts: Conservatives Attack Poor
Cold Hearts: Conservatives Attack Poor Homeless Henrietta Hughes

Obama helped a homeless woman, and now she's the object of the right's hatred.

For those who have not heard of Henrietta Hughes, she is a homeless woman who stood up at a town hall meeting and told Barack Obama that she is unemployed and has been forced her to live in her car. She further pleaded with the president to do something to ensure that people like her had housing:

"I have an urgent need, unemployment and homelessness, a very small vehicle for my family and I to live in," she said. "The housing authority has two years' waiting lists, and we need something more than the vehicle and the parks to go to. We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom. Please help."

Now, Michelle Malkin has decided to publicly mock her with taunts like "If she had more time, she probably would have remembered to ask Obama to fill up her gas tank, too." She then went on to say:

Hughes didn't explain the cause of her financial turmoil. Obama didn't ask. And if we conservatives dare to question the circumstances -- and the underlying assumption that it is government's (that is, taxpayers') role to bail her out -- we'll be lambasted as cruel haters of the downtrodden.

<. . .>

Well, pardon my unbending belief in fairness and personal responsibility, but why should my tax dollars go to feed the housing entitlement beast?

2. The irony is that private individuals helped her, not government
Isn't that what conservatives prefer: private individuals and charities should help people, rather than government programs?

3. I can't handle these dinosaurs.
If we continue to allow these people to spread this kind of hate, we deserve to be extinct.

Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh....I've heard more of this shit in the last ten years than I want to know exists, let alone listen to. It's enough to wreck my sleep for the next decade, should we all live that long.

5. It's a combination of things.
Calvinistic BS, believing that being poor is a wilful action, a choice akin to choosing to be lazy. And believing God only blesses the wealthy.

And the "well off" seem to have an inordinate amount of fear of being poor or being seen as poor. They almost think that poverty is a contageous disease they can contract.

And it's a capitalist attitude where one level of people need to look down upon another level of people for self-identification and aggrandizement.

And the "well off" always have resented the government compelling them to give THEIR money to the poor, especially without the latter having to literally and directly beg the well off for the alms.
