I think Dean should take a Gamble on the California Recall
I think Howard Dean is a candidate who is willing to try new things and take chances and this is why I suggest he do this regarding the California recall election. I think his website should have another special three-day fundraising drive and use that money to purchase television ads in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. Dean would use the money raised to support Davis and indirectly himself.

He could come on with his basic pitch, "We have to stand up to the Republicans" and go into (as he did on Larry King on Monday) how they are trying to thwart another election by sponsoring this recall against Gray Davis. End it by saying that if Davis is recalled and a Republican takes office it will mean the state will embark on a right wing agenda.

Now Dean is showing strength in California and his supporters could be valuable assets to Gov. Davis. But Dean still has to get his name out there and by doing this he is exposing himself to a large number of voters and gaining valuable name recognition and support for his stand among party loyalists.

If Davis wins or loses--Dean would benefit by standing up for the guy and the loyalty of party loyalists.

3. At First I Thought It Was Too Risky
If Davis lost, it might backfire on Dean. But that's highly improbable. The media is having a field day there, and it would be tremendous publicity.

4. Interesting idea
with not much downside. Even those Dems who are lukewarm about Davis realize that this is not just about him.

Post the idea on the Dean blog, I bet it gets some attention.

5. He has until... Friday or Saturday to decide...

He could run on a platform of, "Vote for me and I'll appoint Davis (or Bustamante, depending on what's legal) as Governor"

This recall is so messed up.

6. Dean has already said what he thinks of Davis and the recall..
and from what he said I think this would appeal to him!

It would generate a lot of publicity and I think it is only right that Davis stays in for the duration and not let those puke breaths try and set our agendas.
