SC Senate: Who will be our candidate?
I'm really worried that we could lose this seat.

The Hill suggests that Ed. Sup. Inez Tenenbaum, Mayor Bob Coble (Columbia), Mayor Joseph P. Riley (Charleston), and St. Sen. Tom Moore could all be candidates. Tenenbaum is clearly the strongest candidate (she actually outpolled Hollings againt Jim DeMint)...she says she'll decide by Labor Day. But if she declines to run, do we have any realistic chance of winning?

1. I think we will pull it off if Tennenbaum runs.

She did get more votes than any other candidate for statewide office in South Carolina in 2002.

If Tennenbaum doesn't run, I'd be disappointed.

2. It depends on the top of the ticket .
This is a big military and veteran state. When the electorate becomes engaged, you will see a whole different state here.

3. I have thought all along that inez would run for Senate...
...but to be honest (and selfish) we really need her as the next Governor. Sanford is screwing things up royally.

If Inez does not run for the Senate, I hope its because she runs for Gov.

After inez, my best hope would be Mayor Riley from Chas. It would become a real upstate/low-country brawl. Riley was a hero during hurricane hugo.

4. I like Riley, too.
I overheard some older GOPers talking in a restaurant about what a great honest guy Hollings is and how they regret that he won't be running. They said he deserved to win another term.

5. I SAY INEZ 2004
She is a wonderful lady and politician. I hope she can help to lead our state in Washington.

Although, we must be worried! Regardless of who runs, with Dubya on the ballot it will really be difficult for Dems in SC!

:-(

6. There will need to be a lot of split ticketing
What Tenenbaum needs to run on is an issue where SC's interests are opposite Bush's, the way Landrieu did in LA. One issue that could help her would be free trade.

7. Totally agree
Landrieu is the best blueprint of how to win Senate seats in the South.
