Vince4Congress needs a campaign song...
For those of you who haven't been following, my husband, Vince Whitacre, is running for Congress in WI-5; Vince4Congress is his Web site and my shorthand.

And we're just having the darndest time coming up with a good campaign theme song. Ground rules:
1. American acts only.
2. It must be a good song -- my husband is seriously into and seriously picky about music.
3. It can't be in use by any current or former presidential candidate of any party (at least not that we know of ).
4. It needs to be something that won't alienate older or younger voters, but should be sufficiently offbeat to suggest the tone of this campaign. It needs to be something that we've at least heard of, but not so popular that you hear it during pitching changes at a baseball game...
5. Genre, gender of vocalist, style, year of release, etc. are unimportant other than as relevant to the guidelines above.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Oh, any anyone know if we need ASCAP or BMI license or something else just to play the song before speeches and such? And if so, how to go about getting one and how much it costs? (Obviously, we're not going to spend thousands of dollars we don't have for a license, but we don't want to run afoul of copyright either. If we'd need to spend too much money on it, we'd choose another song or forego one altogether.)

Thank you!

1. come on, somebody has to have an idea
How is your campaign offbeat? I just read most of your positions and I'd vote for ya! Sound pretty normal to me!

3. Well, offbeat meaning he's running against a popular incumbent
with a lot of money in a conservative district.
Meaning we probably can't run a traditional campaign and expect to win.

That's what I mean about offbeat -- no whacko positions or anything, but a different sort of campaign.

Thanks for reading and for the kick, sandnsea!

4. I'm going to steal somebody elses - Get Up Offa That Thing
And vote and you'll feel betta!

And then they had a couple other verses and I thought it was cute. Maybe we'll get this kicked up again and they'll see it and want to take credit!

If you could get figure out how to get recording rights and have a local band volunteer to do it up for you. You can do alot more with just computers and a CDRW these days!

And I always love What's Goin' On.

2. Do your thing
By Basement Jaxx. That would be my suggestion.
