We need to throw Lieberman out of the Democratic Party
He's gone too far in his latest critisism of the Democrats saying we don't deserve to be in the White House if we don't suck up to Bush the way he does.

Does he really think he is going to win the nomination by ridiculing the Democratic faithful? I can't imagine he's anything but working for the GOP undercover.

He has to go!

1. One would have to walk across the aisle...
...drag Joe over to the Dem side...and then kick his ass out.

Lather
Rinse
Repeat

2. Best Way to Get Him Out of Party - Don't ever Elect him to Office Again!!!
Democrats should be progressive, not repuke lite.

4. Thank you!
I'm so tired of this attitude that we have to kick out members of our own party. Geez, who's going to be the one with the Yardstick in front of Congress determining who is worthy enough to be a Democrat and who isn't.

We have solutions for getting rid of democrats we don't like and that's called the primaries. About a week ago some of us were criticized because an outsider wants to run against Joe Hoeffel in the Pennsylvania US Senate Primaries (Winner will run against Arlen Specter). Hoeffel is another typical DC politician and a centrist and I applaud the fact that PA is given a choice of a real democrat, Charlie Crystle.

We need to encourage more people like Mr. Crystle to take chances and run in the primaries and when they do we need to help support them especially when they are running against folks who are no differnt than the republicans.

7. Hoeffel has a lifetime ACU rating of 5 and ADA above 95
he's not what I would call a centrist.

18. Furthermore, he's giving weekly "Iraq watch" speeches on the House floor
If Hoeffel is a centrist, then I'd be hard-pressed to find a liberal in the U.S. House.

6. Don't donate money, and don't vote for him
That usually does the trick.

You need a healthy obsession. I suggest needlepoint.

8. Don't kick him out of the party
Just vote him out of office. In 2006, I'm sure that Lieberman will either retire or face a strong primary challenge. I'm hoping (and have been saying it all over these forums) that Rep. Rosa DeLauro runs for the Senate in 2006. Then Connecticut would have both DeLauro and Dodd, two terrific challengers.

11. This Is The Only Not Ridiculous Proposal I've Heard
Are people here really so hell bent on purity that you would just as soon cut away a Senator that might be the deciding vote on an crucial bill? I have no love for Lieberman, but you guys are really starting to sound like Barry Goldwater disciples.

Thanks for the voice of reason, mndemocrat_29.

13. seriously
we need all the democrats we can get. I'm not "Joe 4 President" but let's not get carried away. I'm actually hoping he doesn't wake up one day and realize he is really Republican.

17. Rosa won't challenge Joe. She has so far endorsed him
The only one who could oust Joe is Gov. John Rowland and that means we'd lose a senate seat to a Repuke, and even I, who despise Joe immensely, won't go that far.

The only other hope is that in the long term, an up and coming Democrat will challenge Joe in a primary, but I don't see that happening for a long time.

10. No it should be Dean
Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 11:58 PM by Nicholas_J
After Deans attack on the party leadership, perhaps ot is Dean who needs to be removed from the party,.

After all Libermanr never threatened to cut Medicaid benefits, or threaten to veto a bill to restore them to the budget.

14. I suppose you would be right if all you care about is...
"The Leadership", if that's what you like call those Bush followers. But I consider the Party the undeserving masses that Lieberman doesn't think much of. Us poor misguided souls who don't understand it was okay for Bush to lie us into war.

15. It just struck me
what the "centrist" leadership of the DLC is all about. AND the type of politicians it attracts. For every Blair or Clinton who could not be bothered with an outside committee, there is a nervous clique of not very gifted survivors who hug the center of the boat while everyone else is rowing. They come from states where they cannot believe they are surviving. They are hoping by their bland lack of charisma no one will notice they are not the dominant Repugs. They admire the powerful repugs and the blatant confidence THEY have while they scold the left Dems for losing ways(like values) and rocking the boat(so that THEY might be in danger of getting caught between).

So it is no surprise that the weakest or poorest fighters, coming often from difficult states with slim margins try to "rise" to prominence in the DLC and maintain that their obsequious posture is THE key element of the council. Washington Dems like Sen. Bayh harbored the notion that they would scoop out a bipartisan power wedge to regulate and move the balance of power. When Norquist declared that long dead notion was "date rape" they probably reached for the smelling salts.

Like a child thinking it the better part of caution to stand at the center of the seesaw, they aim to please the big bully who will most ruthlessly slam the board and berate the weaker, fairer end for not surrendering and "stabilizing" the seesaw. When the possibility of boldly adding their weight to the good guy's side is not as strong as should be for a "leader".

Personal self-interest is the key, though they probably don't think that themselves and fancy being a Godlike fulcrum rather than that whiny kid clutching the center of the seesaw for dear life. The bully laughs and threatens. The good guy fumes and pleads. If any of the real leaders took over the chairmanship and other positions the DLC would not seem a tailored haven for the weakest links of the party.

20. Notice that the poster of this thread is a Dean supporter.
Dean's picture is on the top. This is the kind of nonsense Dean's supporters use to try to get their man the job. I wouldn't want to have a man who pulls this or his supporters in office. I don't support Lieberman but I will vote for him if he gets the nomination. I'd have a lot of trouble voting for Dean.

22. Why do YOU get to decide who stays in the Democratic Party?
Sorry, but who the f*ck made you boss? Lieberman, unlike the poseurs around here, has actually devoted his entire life to public service -- to advancing the cause of civil rights, women's rights, environmental protection, consumer protection. Frankly, most of you aren't fit to wash Joe's jockey shorts. I'm sorry that Joe Lieberman, who has consistently received high ratings from liberal organizations like NARAL, the Legaue of Conservation Voters, the Human Rights Campaign, the NAACP and the AFL-CIO, isn't liberal enough for you. But did it ever occur to you that perhaps you don't represent the political center of the Democratic Party? How about all the moderates who had to suffer through liberal nominees like George McGovern, Walter Mondale and Michael Dukakis? Would if be fair for them to demand that these people get kicked out of the Democratic Party?

Here's a suggestion -- if you don't like Lieberman, why not stop wasting your time bashing him and go and and find a Democrat that you CAN support (assuming there actually is one), and say positive things about him (or her)?

But DU rules preclude me from calling them out on their bigotry.
