Should MoveOn.org get involved in thwarting the California recall?

1. I wouldn't say "thwarting"

Even though it sucks, in the opinion of the courts (so far) it is a legitimate election. It sounds too much like what Republicans like to do to elections.

I think MoveOn should definitely publicize it, encourage voters to vote "No", start an initiative to provide transportation to polling stations, and document all abuses and irregularities.

6. Legal isn't necessarily ethical and unethical needs thwarting

The signatures were paid for, the recall was not a movement by the people. This is not democracy in action.

Reject do-over Republican tactics. No on recall, Yes on Bustamante. It's the only way to make sure a vote casted stands for anything.

Even Ventura is against it. He said when he wrote a piece about it for Time or one of those US news clones, the paragraph about how he opposed it was edited out.

3. We need all the help we can get!

People in other states really don't know what's up. They really think it's all Davis's fault and not Wilson who started the ball rolling on the downfall of California. Plus, the fact it takes the nation's mind off the invasion of Iraq and the troops and children who are being killed daily. People need to realize this is just a coup and we don't want Arnie as governor for sure-moron. He can't even cast a vote and thinks Mandela him. What an air-head. No wonder Bush likes him; their both as clueless as burnt toast. We are really very angry about this and are sick of our state being the laughingstock of the world. We are the 5th or 6th in the world and Dubya and his thugs want to take us down. Meanwhile down at the "made-for-TV" ranch the unelected prez is still trying to ride a horse.

10. the hypocrisy is staggering

comparing Bush* with Davis: Bush* was handed the oval office by the supreme court when they ruled that COUNTING ALL THE VOTES would be a violation of HIS (Bush*s) rights. many people, myself included, would have loved for the FL election to be held again, to ensure a legitimate result. of course, that was completely out of the question at the time. the repugs would have had a stroke. but here we are a couple years down the road, in nov 2002, we have had an election in CA, a completely legit election with a clean result. no butterfly ballots, no massive disenfranchisement, no hanging chads. but the repugs didn't like the outcome, so they get to hold another election.

if it's OK for the repugs to demand a re-take on the completely legitimate CA 2002 election, only months after it took place... then WHY were we DENIED the opportunity to overturn the completely BOGUS result of FL 2000???

7. I think Moveon.org could do some real good

in helping bring out the real truth about who started the Calif recall & why.

Seems like they are in a position to really get the word out....

8. has moveon.org ever changed public opinion?

sure i'd like to see what moveon.org could do. but i had the impression that moveon.org was more about organizing and effectively channeling the energies of people who already believe in something, rather than about changing people's minds. moveon.org has done a great job of the former...

but in this recall election, i think it's the latter that needs doing.

9. They are good at raising funds in a short period of time and

this year they used some of those funds to create anti-war ads and other political ads. Some were aired and some were rejected by the networks.

I think that MoveOn.org needs to work in concert with the Dem Party, and the Dem Party would be a Fool to not ask for MoveOn.org's help in using the Internet to raise funds to fight the recall and to help get the message out to California voters to oppose the recall.
