1. A Troublesome Quote
'Further, they say that money won’t be an issue because defense contractors will line up to back his bid.'

1) How many defense contractors are around to drop the $2000 max?
2) This is creepy however you cut it. Defense contractors are one of the worst forms of government pork, and rarely have the national interest as their top priority.

2. I don't think so.
Bush gives so much more to the military contractors, like Halliburton. I can see why someone would think that though.

Clark will give more to things like the quality of life of troops and their families.

3. This will be the election('04)
where the GOP and the punditry has a rude awakening. This will be the year where BushCo finds out that money in unlimited and obscene amounts where they are concerned cannot change what is regarded as bad policy and weak leadership. This guys'reelection(oops I slipped there SElection) number is under %50.No matter how a-holes like Chris Matthews and his RW guests try to tell us that this prez is very popular and a straight shooter regular guy type(unlike Clinton and/or Gore)people will vote with their pockets and this administration is the absolute worst in history where job growth is concerned. The only way they get another 4 years is with more cheating stealing lying and maybe even marshall law.We all know that Osama and Hussien will be trotted out like show horses come September of next year and ya know what?NOBODY WILL BELIEVE THEIR BULL$HIT THIS TIME.I expect more terra threats and color-code changing to make W look like a hero-he's not and I hope and pray for 2 things to happen;first, that the families of 9/11 victims are shown protesting at the convention and that somewhere, someway, there turns up another patriot(like Rowley,John O'Neil,or a Joe Wilson)to foil THEIR diabolical plans and I ain't talking about any foreign far-off land terrorists,I'm talking about the worst kind of terrorist the self-serving,heartless,greedy and in it for themselves and their contributors kind we call them TRAITORS.I am praying for divine intervention b/c that's what it's gonna take. Gods'hand to stop this madness-for the good of this country, and for the good of all mankind.I put nothing past these neo-cons.I believe He will step in for this one...

4. Yeah, I didn't like that line...it sounded a bit planted, though
Do you think his friends would really say something like that?

And, yeah, I agree, defense contractors are creepy. That's not to say that if I were a candidate, I'd reject their donations, but I definitely would make sure that I wasn't bound to anything. Maybe the piece is just referring to the fact that Clark has contacts there as a general, which wouldn't be surprising and doesn't necessarily indicate that he's selling influence. Gore, for example, accepted plenty of money from oil and energy companies, but that doesn't necessarily cause me to respect him any less or to doubt his commitment to the environment.

Anyway, this line from his recent (and IMHO excellent) http://www.msnbc.com/news/953102.asp|>Newsweek] interview was reassuring, though:

"In terms of the economy itself, the fundamental economic problem has been a lack of aggregate demand. The spark you have seen over the last quarter has been in large part because of increased defense spending. I think there are far more productive ways to use that additional money."

5. Where's the link Funk
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 11:14 AM by familydoctor

Oh, I see the line. Not sure what to make of that.
Hmmm....I don't think Clark is the kind of guy
to abuse situations like that. Just my hunch.

Anyway, let's say Clark wins it all. I think we
will be better off and I think we can restore
some decency and accountability to our White House.

Clark is a man of honor, so I wouldn't worry about
defense contracting "perks" being an issue. The people
are going to elect Clark, not big money.

Big Money will try to elect Bush but he sucks.

It's not about money, timing, or punditry. It is
about the quality of the candidate.
