1. Homeland Security was the issue that started losing him the

audience at the CA Democratic Convention. Then he completely blew out when he got into the war in Iraq. He would do himself a lot of favors if he softened his approach on Homeland Security. Most people want privacy and freedom over intrusion. He should also re-examine his position on Iraq. This is not a negative reply. I actually like Edward but I disagree with him on certain issues and if he wants to do better in more liberal areas of the country (such as California, New York, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and so forth) he will need to change his approach to these issues or find a more acceptable way of presenting them. I think the guy has a lot of integrity and that's why he didn't pull any punches about his positions when he spoke at the CA Dem Convention. It was his positions that hurt him.

2. And medical marijuana
He said at one time that marijuana is illegal and he supports enforcing the law. Yikes. Alot of people are not going to like that at all.

I think Dean and Kerry both at least support a moratorium on arresting medical marijuana patients. That's something anyway.

I really had high hopes for Edwards, but then I heard some of his policies and was disappointed. I think part of it is he may still want to run for his Senate seat so even if he were inclined to lean more left as a President, he can't say anything that would alienate North Carolina voters. Not a good place to be when trying to get a Democratic nomination.

3. Dean's against medical marijana
If you check, you'll find he's worse on this issue than Edwards. Kerry is a good guy. Edwards seems strong on civil rights. I was sorry about his position on Iraq and Homeland Security.

4. I wasn't sure of Dean's position
I look towards Edwards and Kerry for the most part. I wish Edwards were a little more progressive on issues like medical marijuana because he I don't think he stands a chance in the west otherwise. I wonder if he understands how many of those good ol boys with the Confederate Flags on their trucks are smokin a j on the way to the fishing hole. Ah, oh well.

5. False
Dean's position, which he has stated repeatedly, is that he would have the FDA do testing and report on its beneficial effects and possible side effects, just like any other drug, and act in accordance with their findings, meaning if they find that it is beneficial he would make medicinal marijuana legal.

Sorry to confuse you with facts.

6. Just a link or two
in a press release from the Marijuana Policy Project.

http://www.aegis.com/pubs/atn/2002/ATN37907.html

"The biggest obstacle to passage appears to be Vermont Governor Howard Dean. Vermont newspapers have reported that Dean, a physician, opposes the bill and is pressuring his fellow Democrats, who control the Senate, to kill it before it reaches his desk."

as opposed to:

"Kerry said he was "open to the question of medical marijuana," but wanted to see the results of a pending study on alternatives to marijuana before deciding whether it should be legal. He said if elected he would put a moratorium on the raids until the results of the study."
