Question:
I have been kicking around various suggestions for various candidates' choices for VP...

Dean/Clark, Kerry/Clark, Clark/Dean, Clark/Kerry, Gephardt/Clark,

all the issues need to be addressed -- regionalism, experience gaps, military records, expertise, stature, and so on and so forth.

One thing has been bubbling a bit in my head:

Has anyone thought about the possibility that the eventual nominee pick Max Cleland as a running mate?

Expecially if the eventual winner is from the North or Midwest.

1. No, because the nominated dem will be
Kerry (I know because my magic 8-ball told me).

Kerry/Clark or Kerry/Edwards or Kerry/someone we have't thought of, but he really wants ...

2. Kerry and Cleland Are Very Good Friends
And Cleland has strong chops on intelligence. Wouldn't surprise me.

3. Didn't know that!
I've been so aware of Cleland, but must confess I don't know what state he's from. Will he help with the South?

4. Cleland
Is a Vietnam Veteran, triple amputee, and is from...drumroll please... Georgia.

I am pretty sure (barring a spectacular run by Clark, or an incredible surprise from Gephardt) that the eventual nominee will be from the Northeast.

This opinion is not rooted in my own leanings (I favor Dean at the moment) but in my reading of the current trends.

I think the most likely eventual winner will be chosen from Dean, Kerry, or Lieberman -- in alphabetical, not preference, nor liklihood order, mind you all.

All will need some Southern comfort, as it were.

Dean and Lieberman both need a "military assist" and a foreign policy bolsterer.

Lieberman needs a liberal on his flank to try and retain the green/leftie/liberal vote.

Kerry needs to be associated with someone with "fire" (I know Kerry has fire, but perception and spin is the name of the game here, and kerry has been "labled" by the SCLM as "dry")...

Any other speculations out there?

10. Cleland is leading a veterans campaign for Kerry
and will be campaigning around the country to open vets' eyes to what Bush and the GOP have done to destroy their benefits and that of current military personnel.

Max Cleland and the Veterans' Revenge Tour 2004.

5. He seems like an excellent choice for veep for kerry or dean
I don't know about Clark though, how long was Cleland in the Senate? Seems like Clark might want someone with a lot of Washington experience.

And I think it's gonna be Clark, Dean or Kerry.

As far as one of them accepting veep -- seems like that would be hard after going for the big prize -- how common is that, really?

6. Contender accepting VP slot
has been an occurrence...GHWBush and Reagan, for example.

A lot depends on how close the primaries get, how contentious the primaries get, and how "brokered" the convention is, and what kind of deals are cut behind the scenes.

At this point, with Dean and Kerry (and Clark) basically focusing on Bush and the GOP, and Lieberman spending all his time trashing the liberal/progressive wing of the party and defending the war, I tend to think that somewhere down the road either Dean or Kerry could throw support to the other, or to Clark, depending on if he runs and how he does.

9. Cleland gave Bush most of what he wanted
That's why the liberals stayed home in Georgia. The computer fix did the rest.
