What an Extraordinary Day for the Dean Grassroots!

What an Extraordinary Day for the Dean Grassroots

The power of this grassroots campaign is sometimes so overwhelming it is hard to describe.

Today, the 300,000th American joined this campaign--three-hundred-thousand politically active individuals that are changing the way politics works in this country.

What does that mean? 300,000 distinct individuals with and without jobs and families, with social lives and commitments and distractions, have taken time out of their lives to volunteer for Meetup, give money, give their name, volunteer for local outreach or a rally, and make a strong political statement about the direction they want this country to take.

We are two-thirds of the way towards our goal of 450,000 Americans by the end of September. We are building a new American community. This is an extraordinary day for the Dean grassroots.

Over 88,000 Meetup volunteers plan to come together on September 3rd to kick off the month that will change politics forever.

Today, we passed 40,000 grassroots posters downloaded. 40,701 grassroots posters (at least--not counting copies!) are now on bulletin boards, cars, and in windows in every state in the country.

Today and yesterday, over 41,000 Americans spoke to John Ashcroft--in their own voices--demanding that he respect civil liberties and civil rights in this country.

Just since 9 PM last night, 33 Americans have newly planned their own grassroots events on the Get Local tools. What other campaign can you imagine that has so many volunteers, so committed to changing the direction of the country that nearly 1,000 self-organized events would spring up in the middle of summer?

As of today, 12,000 people are planning to show our strength during rallies of the Sleepless Summer Tour. While Bush vacations in Texas, Dean supporters are restlessly, tirelessly fighting to give this campaign its voice.

You are asking your friends to join the campaign, you are wearing your Dean buttons in Supermarkets, you are talking about Dean in your communities -- and our web site visitors have doubled, our Meetup support is surging, and independent events are multiplying.

This is the greatest grassroots campaign of the modern era. In September, you will show the country just how great, and how powerful we are--and shake the foundation of modern American politics.

You have the power. Thank you for an extraordinary day.

3. How did they come up with 300,000?
This is not to bash or anything, but what was the criteria? 300,000 seems a big jump from 88,000.

4. Two different things Dr
The 88,000 is the number of people who signed up for meetup (you have to go through the meetup.com website to do that) and the 300,000+ is the amount of people who signed up in support of Dean through the Dean website.

5. Two different numbers...
300,000 (actually 304,381...) is the number of people who have signed up at the Dean website to recieve email, volunteer, get info, support the candidate, etc.

The 88,000 is Meetup signups.
