Upset predictions, anyone?
Let's hear your upset predictions for next year's election.

President: I think the Democratic nominee <cough>How<cough>ward<cough>De<cough>ee<cough>ean<cough> will win Virginia. Add the Nader and Gore votes from 2000, and you get an overall Bush advantage of about 53-47%. If the circumstances play out right, the Democratic nominee could take Virginia. (I'm not implying that our nominee will win all of the green vote.)

Senate: From what I understand, George Voinovich is not very popular in Ohio. If that's true, I think Eric Fingerhut could put up a fight and maybe even win.

I can't think of any more possible upsets right now. Can you think of any? Do you have any predictions on House or Governors' races?

1. So this is supposed to be a subliminal Dean post.
Can't Dean's people do anything up-front.

4. Just proved my "Lock" of the election...
That Dean-haters can't resist any opportunity to make a derisve comment about him or his supporters. The mere mention of Dean causes your kind to start spewing hate.

Why don't you actually try keeping on topic instead of using this thread to post insults?

And what do you mean it's a "subliminal Dean post?" I didn't mention Dean; I was coughing!

2. J.D. Hagworth loses his House Seat
Yes, I know. It's unlikely but I will try to do my best so that he doesn't pick it up again. He is my congressman by the way.

19. Hey, VermontDem--
you could run for his seat yourself, if you're eligible.

(My new crusade, and everything.)

20. I am not 25 yet
But once I turn 18, I will get involved with the local Democratic Party and once I turn 25 I might run for Congress and be the youngest congressman ever(The youngest was 26). But I don't know.

12. Gary Swing would be surprising
I don't see Campbell losing. He seems quite popular and certainly more popular that Wayne Allard.

Those two congressional races wouldn't be huge upsets. As long as they get out of the primaries they will be facing two of the most vulnerable republicans in the House of Representatives.

13. I have one.
Dean will win the Iowa caucus and Gep will promptly thereafter drop-out of the race.

John Edwards will emerge as a real contender, but the South alone won't be enough.

14. I have a 2003 prediction
Democrats will pick up seats in both Houses of the New Jersey state legislature despite McGreevey's unpopularity and despite the fact that it is a midterm election and the governor is a democrat and the governor's party almost always loses seats in midterm elections. I just think that this state is too liberal to have republicans running the legislature.

15. Upset Predictions
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 11:32 PM by mndemocrat_29
Presidential-Trailing in the polls, President Bush's grasp on the Solid South collapses, with Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana, West Virginia, Virginia, and Arkansas all going to the Democrats, handing them a strong win.

Gubernatorial-Though not a great upset, Claire McCaskill bests Gov. Bob Holden and wins the governor's seat handily.

Senatorial-Blessed by the Democratic sweep, Eric Fingerhut bests Sen. George Voinovich for a Senate seat by a margin of less that one percent(ala Maria Cantwell in 2000). Fingerhut joins Nancy Farmer, Tony Knowles, Jonathan Miller, and Joe Hoeffel as the fifth Democrat to beat a Republican incumbent. Along with winning an open seat in Illinois, Democrats hold open seats in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

House-The Democrats, blessed with a tidalwave of support, not only pick up several open seats (PA-15, FL-15, FL-16), but also knock out record amounts of incumbents. Longtime incumbents like Reps. Jim Leach, Jim Nussle, Anne Northrup, Denny Rehberg, Robin Hayes, Rob Simmons, Mike Ferguson, and Shelley Moore Capito, along with freshman representatives Bill Janklow, Rick Renzi, Katherine Harris, Ginny Brown-Waite, Max Burns, Phil Gingrey, John Kline, Steve Pearce, and Jim Gerlach. The two biggest shocks of the night were the ousters of Reps. Peter King, Nancy Johnson, and Clay Shaw, all of whom live in Democratic districts. All three were swept away by the Democratic tidalwave. Nancy Pelosi is set to become the first female speaker.

23. It would be a great election
The wonderful thing about it is that it isn't that far-fetched. If we Democrats can get out the vote, we could do this.

that could be unseated pretty easily. Hey, a Dem Gov is a start, right?

21. First of all, I say Gephardt will CREAM Bush.
Secondly, Andrew Young will win the Georgia Senate race. Also, Tim Pawlenty will be recalled, and the Democrats will defeat Mark Kennedy and John Kline.
