9. 8:45 (PDT) update from the Dean Blog...
Edited on Sun Aug-24-03 10:01 PM by sfecap
"This is absolutely incredible. The Orlando Sentinal is estimating 15,000 people are rallying for Howard Dean at this very moment. We've also just passed half a million on the bat. Stand up with as many as 15,000 people in Seattle by contributing to the Raise a Million against Bush Challenge. You all have done this. The foundations of politics in this country are changing before our very eyes. Spread the word. We are taking our country back!

10:45 PM update: We're still trying to get a hard count -- the road has called in a few times and we can hear moments of overwhelming cheers -- one staff just called in to say it was UNBELIEVABLE and "Dean signs for as far as you can see" before she got cut off. We can't wait to see pictures, either!"

he's done.

This has got to be a record for political rallies. Anyone who can get THAT many people to come out and hear them speak is UNSTOPPABLE. Anyone wanna take bets on the DLC changing their tune about Dean and trying to suck up to him?

I bet Rove is shitting his britches right now! lol

15. This Casper Star says hundreds?
http://www.trib.com/AP/wire_detail.php?wire_num=156632

SNIP..."''What we are doing here is building a movement to take back America,'' the former Vermont governor told about 500 supporters at a fund-raiser in a downtown hotel.

After the fund-raiser, Dean headed to nearby Westlake Park, where hundreds of people gathered hours before he was scheduled to appear. With loud music blaring, there was a rock-and-roll feel to the rally.

Dean arrived in Seattle on Sunday evening after stops in Boise, Idaho and Portland, Ore. - part of a trip his campaign has dubbed the Sleepless Summer Tour....."

I hate it when the AP does this. Papers need to check their stories.

48. My best guess was that there were 8 maybe 9,000 there.
No way was it 15,000. But let's be serious here, 8,000 people in August? You've got to be kidding me! I thought 5,000 would be huge.

The crowd was a little antsy, a couple thousand had been waiting for over 2 hours, and one of his activists got shouted off the stage (poor woman) with chants of "We want Howard!" What the people want, the people get.

What ensued for the next 40 minutes or so, was a Chimp barbecue. Even the whiny couple standing behind me that was complaining for two hours non-stop, and I mean non-stop, were shouting at the top of their lungs 5 minutes into the speech.

To put the crowd size in perspective, Clinton, while he was Prez, didn't draw this many people to his downtown speech. That should tell you all you need to know about the phenomena that is People-Powered Howard.

I think I just saw the next President of the United States.

26. If this estimate is correct these are the types of crowd numbers
which turn out in the closing days of a presidential campaign--like in October 2004. That he is getting 15,000 this early (plus 4000 in Virginia and 5,000 in Portland) is an indication that something is going on big in politics today involving Howard Dean.

43. From the Road: A Sleepless Summer Update from Seattle, Washington
Today was a totally amazing day. We started in Boise, Idaho were over 400 people showed up on a Sunday morning to see the Gov. Then we headed to Portland, Oregon where over 5,000 people attended the rally. Then, when we didn't think things could get any better, we fly to Seattle, Washington where the Gov. was greeted by 15,000 people!

I was in the car with the Gov. after the Seattle rally, and he was truly amazed and awe-struck by the size of the crowd - not only in Seattle, but by the number of people that have showed up at each stop over the last two days.

I stood up on stage during the Seattle event and I thought about how when the Gov. started this campaign almost a year and a half ago, we could barely fill a living room! Now I was watching him speak in front of 15,000 people!

This truly is a grassroots movement - I've been there from the beginning watching the grass grow! To all of you out there who are supporting the Gov. - you made his day! Thank you!!

http://blog.deanforamerica.com/archives/001208.html

The "living room" thing really gets me. I remember those days too, and thinking (with a little pessimism) at the time, "really, where could this guy be in 6-10 months?" Well...

44. I was there!
It was wild. WOW! So many people all responding with hope and enthusiasm. What a city. It was hot and we were packed in to capacity. I guess the crowd just ran way back down the block- couldn't see much from in among 'em.

We waited after and when the crowd thinned, walked up close to the stage. Dean was surrounded by press and to the side I spotted Trippi- He signed a handbill I had and I *did* get to shake Dean's hand.:)

I'm high as a kite. Just wow.
