Reid is now safe...we won't have to spend money in Nevada nor worry about a close challenge. There are no other Repukes that could seriously challenge Reid except for Guinn, and he's not running either.

It looks like this will be pretty safe for us now. It looks like we will only have to worry about Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and South Dakota. Hopefully, Thune doesn't run and then we can cross off South Dakota.

5. Reid was never in danger

Nevadans love him. He goes out of his way to stay in contact with his constituents. If you take a trip to washington you can have breakfast with him there if congress is in session and he will even give you a tour of the senate. He responds to all corespondance he recieves. He is quite possibly the only candidate nevadans have that they veiw as a true rep even if they dopnt agree with him.

Just a small story. I was at a friends childs bday the other day and someone there told the story of her breakfast with reid on a washintgton trip and how the senator remembered her kid from that trip when her kids baseball team made state champion and he was at the awards ceramony.

These kings of things have an effect on people and they dont forget. Not to mention the fact that he is a senior senator and as such wields a lot of power for nevada something they wont give up lightly

And whenever Tom Daschle steps down or loses his seat Reid is the favorite to succeed him. When there was talk of Daschle stepping down to run for president the media reports were that Reid had secured the vote of a majority of the democrats in the senate and that he would defeat Chris Dodd. Apparently, he gained a lot of popularity when he gave up his potential Environment Committee chairmanship to Jim Jeffords so that Jeffords would switch parties.

7. He almost lost in 1998

Didn't he win by something like 500 votes? I still think that he would have won but he almost lost to Ensign in '98 so he could have theoretically lost to Gibbons now.

I couldn't be happier. Reid is one of our best senators and this is one more step to regaining the Senate.

Apparently he really likes Harry Reid. According to politics1.com Guinn has just stopped short of endorsing Reid. I think that Harry Reid should be pretty safe and most likely republicans will focus on those 4 southern races and South Dakota where they will love to try to oust Daschle. Also, John Ensign won't campaign against Reid so it may end up like in Oregon where the two incumbents won't campaign against each other and both win elections easily.

It's funny how two former enemies can become such good friends. John Ensign even recommended Reid's son for a federal judgeship. The white house wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea.

The freepers hate him now since he raised taxes and is pro-choice and pro-gay rights. and as pointed out below he likes Reid and came pretty close to endorsing him.
