Moseley Braun at Equality Day Luncheon

The Broward NOW chapter organized an Equality Day luncheon, as reported by the Sun Sentinal:

But most of Sunday's attention went to Moseley Braun, the only black woman ever elected to the U.S. Senate. She took aim at the policies of Bush. She was particularly critical of the administration's approach to abortion and its decision to monitor some library records and arrest people without bringing charges in the name of national security.

"We must not be the first generation to leave less liberty, less choice and less optimism to our children than we inherited," she said.

And there are other reasons to vote for a woman, Moseley Braun added with a smile.

"My candidacy is based largely on making the point that a woman is capable of running the country," she said. "If men knew how to stop and ask for directions, we might not still be in Iraq."
