Kucinich: U.N. Should Take Over Peace Keeping in Iraq
"It is clear now that the United States is bogged down in an ongoing guerrilla war with almost daily casualties. The situation is one that the Administration did not plan for and is not adequately prepared to handle."

"Assertions by the President, and his Administration, that the war is over and that our mission was accomplished, like their claims about Iraq's 'vast stockpiles' of WMD's, are false and misleading. While this Administration was quick to send troops into harm's way, it has no exit strategy for removing US troops from the country."

"Negotiations for an exit must begin now. The UN must take over management, accounting and distribution to the Iraqi people of Iraq's oil profits. There must be no privatization of the Iraqi oil industry. The UN must handle the awarding of all contracts for the rebuilding of Iraq so that there can be no more sweetheart contracts for companies like Halliburton. Additionally, a transition from UN control to self-determined governing structure by and for the Iraqi people must be planned."

"It was wrong to go into Iraq. It is wrong to stay in Iraq. Let's support our troops by bringing them home."

BRING 'EM HOME!!

It has to be the UN...it really does....the hatred of Americans will not lessen with the length of time we are there...I'm afraid it will only increase as we are seen as the oppressors - taking wealth & controlling the people...and have their lives gotten any better since the war? can't imagine how...

Keep speaking out Dennis...we need you!!!!

Peace
DR

4. This is our responsibility
We need massive help from the UN and we need to offer better general international cooperation in order to gain the help we need.
Our country got the Iraqi people into this mess. I really think we should have the integrity to take care of the people who we put in this terrible position (Geneva Convention, anyone?). A president who wouldn't do that because he didn't support the war would appear to say, "screw them, I didn't start this thing."
It's way past time we started caring more about their quality of life and work to improve it with some international help. I really believe that is moral and that is right. We should never have gotten them into this, but now that we have I think we're obligated to do everything possible to improve the conditions for the people there.
I really wish he would change his mind on this. DK's foriegn policy ideas sound kind of like he wants to go Japanese style isolationist.
That is very dramatic, and I think maybe a little unrealistic given the way some countries rely on us for help because of the power we have. What would the global shift in power look like if we no longer lingered in the background as a potential ally? China and Russia would rule the world, I assume. Is this something we really want to gamble on globally?
DK isn't my candidate, but I like some of the dialogue he has opened. I want to hear productive realistic dialogue from those who didn't support the war.
