I thought one part was particularly interesting:
Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts was one of only 14 senators and the only major contender for the Democratic ticket to vote against DOMA in 1996. Sens. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Bob Graham of Florida voted for the measure. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina and Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich of Ohio weren't elected to Congress at the time.

1. Tolerated But Not Thrust Upon

My position has always been that gay marriage should not be banned, but it should also not be forced legally upon any given church. Whatever the case, same-sex couples should be entitled to every right that opposite-sex couples are entitled to.

If civil unions is as far as America is willing to go, I don't personally have a problem with not calling it "marriage." I accept common-law marriage the same as one with a ceremony (in fact, in Brazil they are much, much more common), so why should I have a problem with a ceremony without the name? They're all equal in my eyes. Maybe someday, this will all be revealed to be as silly as it is, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither was the Vatican.;-)
