Dooley (DINO-CA 20) will not seek reelection
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Cal Dooley (D-Fresno) announced today in California that he would not seek re-election to the House of Representatives. Dooley, first elected in 1990, will serve out the remainder of his term, and will leave office at the end of 2004. He represents the 20th district, which is overwhelmingly Democratic and includes parts of Fresno and Kern counties and all of Kings County.

good riddance. Dooley was one of 3 Democrats to vote against blocking the overtime changes, the other two being the two biggest DINOs in the House. Now we can get a real Democrat in there.

1. I posted this in LBN a couple days ago
and I agree. He's a DINO and it will be hard not to improve on him (the district is fairly safe).

2. No loss
Dooley's probably the biggest DINO outside the south.

3. "Overwhelmingly Democratic"??!!
I'm from that district. He represents a bunch of shit kicking dairy farmers. If that district is so Democratic, WTF have they been doing by electing Dooley 7 times?

Good riddance, Cal. Hell, maybe I'LL run!

4. Dooley is still a democrat
It is pretty rare that an incumbent is ousted in the primary. Also, the district may have changed in after the 2000 census so maybe it wasn't as democratic in the past.

It really isn't overwhelmingly democratic. It does have a solidly democratic lean if you look at the 2000 presidential results but I would hardly call it overwhelmingly.

6. Wow!
I missed this in LBN so this is the first I've heard of it. Time to run a REAL Democrat. We have some really good locals that would be excellent, particularly some possible Latino candidates.
