As promised earlier today, here's my update on the Philly mayoral race between incumbent John Street (D) and challenger Sam Katz (R).
In recent weeks, the race has gotten incredibly ugly (all right, so it was ugly from the start). Most unions have endorsed Street, but the firefighters and the Teamsters have endorsed Katz. The Katz campaign recently got the Constitution party candidate disqualified from the race (they said he was a Street plant to take away Republican votes, and his signatures were found invalid).
However, the biggest story is an incendiary device that was allegedly found in Katz's office. There is a dispute that it even existed, as it was apparently thrown out before police were called. The Katz people are blaming Street supporters, while the Street people are saying that they weren't involved. The most up-to-date story I could find on this is
here.
This race is still a TOSS-UP IMHO, and is only likely to get nastier.
