Dean Campaign to Launch Radio Ads in South Carolina Aimed at Black Voters

Democrat Howard Dean is launching radio ads in South Carolina Saturday aimed at attracting black voters, who could make up almost half the electorate in the state's Feb. 3 presidential primary.

So far, the former Vermont governor has drawn much of his support from whites, prompting the campaign to step up its efforts to reach out to minorities.

The initial $50,000 ad buy will play on radio stations with a black audience, introducing Dean as "a presidential candidate not afraid to stand up to the president on economy and jobs, even if it means standing alone."

Dean campaign manager Joe Trippi said the ad may be introduced in other markets later. "We will be going on the air soon in Latino and African-American communities in key states, he said.

1. "standing alone"????...HAHAHAHA.....
So now he's trying to misrepresent the others by implying that he is the ONLY one opposing Bush on the economy and jobs?

5. Radio. Brilliant.
Effective and cheap. I love Dean's campaign. It's what's called in the ad biz Guerilla Marketing, and it's what you do when the competition has 20 times more money than you and can't think beyond million dollar 30 second TV spots in prime time.

9. He'll stand alone alright ... only one of top 6 that has no SC office
That won't play well here. It sends a message that says "South carolina - you aren't important enough to open up a campaign office, we still want your black vote though ...".

Kerry, Graham, Gephart, Lieberman, and Edwards have ALL opened offices here. The Deanies, even though they have the most money - are saying loud and clear ... "We're not going to waste our time and money in SC ".

I'm surprised they are even advertising.

7. I'm glad he is doing this
what really impresses me is that he is giving African-Americans the same basic message as he is giving everyone else--he is not pandering--people see through that.

8. YES
totally agree - the same basic message is working with all voters (old, young, new, etc.) - gotta like the ad buy itself - radio over television; will get more saturation for that money than tv would.

10. Is Dean Going To Rap?
He should do something with Outkast. If he does, I'm switching sides.
