Dean outlines how he will beat Bush in speech in San Francisco
Howard Dean had a great day in California on Saturday. With a strong endorsement of Gray Davis and a hard hitting attack on the GOP trying to steal elections. He also endorsed Cruz Bustamante on the second ballot. In a speech in San Francisco Dean also outlined how he plans to conduct his general election campaign:

Dean plans to reach out to 3-4 million who either sat out the last election or didn't vote Democratic. "This time we're going to do it. They're not only going to vote for a Democratic president, they're going to send Tom Delay back to Texas."

Dean said his strategy would be different..."We're not going to start with swing voters and try to convince them we're conservative enough for them," he said. "We're going to start with people who have been with us since the beginning, African-Americans and Latinos. When we do this, the enthusiasm is going to spread to independents and they're going to vote Democratic."

This article also had a great quote from Sal Rosselli, Service Employees International Union Local 250 President, "Dean is our kind of presidential candidate. We need to bring Dr. Dean's expertise and compassion to the White House. Dr. Dean has the fire and the know how to turn this country around."

It was a great day for the Dean Campaign.

1. Bush didn't win by empahsizing he was a Republican
he won by appealing to moderates of both parties. Gore did a poor job of exposing him as really a hardcore right-winger but Dean runs the risk of making it appear he "hates" republican voters and so even if you have doubts about Bush, if you are a Repub you might not feel so good about voting for a guy who says he hates you.

3. I deny that Bush won period
The left did very well on election day 2000. Gore won the popular vote by over 500,000 and Nader received nearly 3 million votes--that is a 3.5 million vote plurality over Bush and these are the voters that Dean is going after.

Dean is going to cause our core Democratic voters to turn out like never before: unions, activists, latinos, african-americans, ect. He is going to bring new people who had dropped out of voting or first time voters back into the process--and we see plenty of them at meetups and Dean's record of social liberalism and fiscal moderation will bring out the independents or moderates you say that Bush appealed to in 2000.

4. Hard core right wing Republicans
aren't going to vote for any Democrat. Dean plans to energize Democrats and people who haven't voted before. I think he has a better chance with that stance than running as a Republican-lite candidate.

By the way, Gore did get more votes than Bush, especially in California.

8. The Nader vote will come from
ass holes who don't respect Dean for the dynamic leader he is...They tend to carry a grudge and dilute the election process.

9. I think you're right
I think at least half of the Nader voters of 2000 will vote Democratic. Why? Bush. Simple as that. They will want to vote for someone who has a realistic chance of ousting Bush from the WH. I think Dean, should he be the nominee, will have more appeal due to his stand on Iraq. Yes, Dean is not the most liberal candidate overall in the race, but I think people are underestimating how mad many voters--Democratic, Green, and others are about the Iraq war and why some of them will not vote for a Democratic nominee who supported the war regardless of how liberal the rest of there record is.

15. I've written to Carla Marinucci before ..I respect her writing!
"This part made me cry for Happy...

"Dean supporter Howard Vicini of San Francisco -- who helped start a group called Seniors for Dean -- said he has been deluged with support from around the country, and now intends to mobilize first for Oct. 7, then for the coming presidential primaries."

"We're going to get seniors to the polls (on Oct. 7) as part of the Dean campaign," he said. "They worked with us, immediately. It's been amazing"

16. seniors for Dean
reminds me of what we are going to do around here to help attract senior vote for Dean. We are going to put together groups of people to go to nursing homes and set up Dean tables there so that people can come and find out more about Dean or even visit people in their rooms.
