Dean treats his supporters with respect
I was at a house party this afternoon to raise money for Dean (we raised about $5000). First of all, I live in Las Vegas, not exactly political central. Nine people were signed up on the events website. I told my husband as we were driving to the party that I hoped at least 6 showed up.

There were 60 people there! We were honored with a conference call with the Governor. He spoke to us for a few minutes, then took a couple of questions. As the coordinater was trying to usher Dean off the phone, Dean said "Hold on! I want to thank everyone!" Then he spoke to us for a few minutes, thanking us all for showing our support and reminding us that We Have the Power, and he wouldn't be where he is today without support from each one of us.

He truly appreciates his supporters. He takes no one for granted, and understands that WE are the reason he is coming ahead in the polls. He impressed me more today than any other day, because he treated me with respect.

I am counting the days until he comes to Vegas (next month!). I cannot wait to me our next President face to face, and thank him for listening to me.

Who said politics can't be fun? :)

1. That sounds
just wonderful.

I'm glad you got to be there. Of course, I think Dean's a hottie, so it's probably best I'm not in a situation where I can put my foot in my mouth.

Braun is more my type: a U of C grad who takes no guff. If she were younger. Ah well.

3. whoo hoo pavlov
Politics can be fun! Congrats on the fundraising, $5000 is pretty huge for a house party.

My parents hosted a Bushwhack party today and my brother did too. I can't wait to get the report on their conference calls.

I don't know how he has the energy but he manages to keep in personal touch with his supporters while he hits all of the official campaign events i.e. the Harkin Steak Fry. Amazing.

6. Your "parents and brother had a bushwhack party, today" ?
Does that mean a Dean party? WoW! And $5000 is Great!

I think our Party that I didn't go to was struggling to make $1000!

10. Aye, it dawned on me...
...as I am watching the replay of the Harkin Steak Fry that Dean was being hurried off the phone because Bill Clinton had arrived (he mentioned Bill during the call). It's so cool that he took part of that half hour between the candidates' speeches and Clinton's speech to conference call. I love being a part of the process!

Thank you so much for that! I was listening in on that phone call and the emotion I felt when he interupted the cordinator to thank all of us ties in nicely with that picture!

17. I love that photo
Just saw it in the gallery and was tempted to post it here.

There are some other great photos from today's event. Looks like a sea of Dean supporters there, and damn, Clinton looks so thin that I am almost worried about him!

4. Your description of the Dean House Party made my eyes tear...
Dean was giving "conference calls" all over our Nation, today!

I hear there was at least one in New York, too!

8. $5000.00 Well Done!
:toast:

I'm looking forward to getting involved. So far I've only been able to donate some money. I signed up for Dean Link last night. I just checked my mail and found some really nice welcoming mail from others in my county. :)

9. The man works really hard.
He's been campaigning since last year, and it looks like it's really paying-off, thank goodness.

These house parties are really adding-up! I can hardly wait for the end of this month!!!

I may not agree with him on some issues, but his stated goal of getting a few million more voters as a means to victory really resonates with me. It looks like it's working so far (with all of the new political donators et al), and we could see a really great election night in 2004. It's been too long since we've had a nice election night. I want to get stinkin' intoxicated in front of the TV and dance around, like I did in 1996. God, it's been so long..

11. I Really Respect The Relationship Dean Has With His Grassroots
Whatever differences I have with him are over policy. As far as his decentralized campaign goes, I think its been top-notch.

Because it is pretty funny, and not in a nasty, malicious way.

The cows are certainly behind Kucinich.

Though I think maybe Dean appeals to some of the young white cows who haven't been involved in politics before...

21. I get that sense too
I got to talk to him for a minute after he spoke to the RAC Conference in Washington in April, and when I told him why I was supporting him he lit up and said "tell all your friends" and he seemed to really appreciate the volunteer work I was doing for him. I think he genuinely is thankful for all the grassroots volunteers, because we are the ones who have helped propel him from an unknown to one of the leading contenders.

22. That's exactly it!
Some candidates look and act like they expect votes. Dean, having been the underdog, has hung on to his humility. He definitely comes across as the real deal.

I'm less sure about the 'respects', however.

27. Yes, Dean thanked me in Manchester, NH after I asked him for his autograph
He thanked me for coming and he meant it.

This is another reason why his followers are fiercely loyal to him.
