Union Support Could Bring Dean Minority Votes
http://timesargus.nybor.com/Local/Story/71555.html

Looks like the union will delay endorsement until November. Seems like an eternity! But glad to hear that they like Dean so much.

1. This is a joke, right? The unions don't like him.
Dean supporters were told not to march in the Wilmington Labor Day Parade unless they took off their Dean shirts. Most union people can't stand Dean.

4. Wrong...quit spreading your lies, genius.
"Wellstone Award Recipient - Howard Dean was the first recipient of AFL-CIO Paul Wellstone Award in recognition of his exceptional support of workers’ efforts to improve their lives by forming unions"

6. are you sure about that?
my friend handed out Dean flyers at the Wilmington Labor Day Parade and was permitted to wear his Dean shirt. He told me that people were quite friendly.

You seem to be rather testy for a Kucinich guy, not the type I expect to be supporting the peace candidate.

9. That was at the picnic
One of the union people made a different comment earlier before the parade started about them not being allowed to march while the two Deanies were standing right there listening to him speak and they didn't dispute the guy's comment. Dean didn't have much of a presence at the picnic either. The Kucinich people had a table and were all over the place.

3. I don't know anyone in the SEIU
At least I don't think I do, but my husband is a Teamster, & he's been talking Dean to everyone he can in his local. He said that almost everyone he's talked to has already heard of Dean, & are very interested in him. Only one of them said he wouldn't vote for him.; he's one of those Union members who vote against their own self-interest because they believe the rethug spin that the Dems are "going to take your guns away".:eyes:

5. Hi Annabel! Well this dude should check out Dean's record
on "guns"..I think that's another issue where the gop can't hijack it anymore where Govenor Dean is concerned.

8. Hi, zidzi!
:hi: I don't think this particular guy will bother to check anything--he's got his head stuck up, er, a certain orifice. There's always a few like that in any group.;-)

7. Dean's gonna get SEIU
They are just waiting until after the 3Q numbers are released to see poorly Gephardt does before writing him off (and, likewise, to see how awesome Dean does in the $$ race). Dean knocked one out of the yard when he addressed their conference, and is being talked up by both Rivera and, to a lesser extent, Stern.

11. This Is Kind Of Pathetic
That Dean has to tout that he may get the support of union members who happen to be minorities, not the other way around. It suggests that he has not connected on the issues that matter directly to minority communities, but he may unearth a couple of people who vote with their union. That may not be really true, but it certainly smells that way.

19. that's not what he said
he said that getting the endorsement by SEIU -- the largest AFL-CIO union -- would increase/continue to build on his momentum.

13. Don't count on it. Face it...

Dean's pandering to blacks isn't going to really do much good. What does Dean really know about minorities on a one on one basis? FCOL, he's lived in a state that is 97% white for how many years? How long do you think it will take minorities to figure that out? "Wyckef Jean," my eye. :eyes:

16. Most people wouldn't know that one
And I wouldn't call it "hip hop". Ja Rule, Ludicrous, 50 cent...that's hip hop. Wyclef is, well...Wyclef. He's got that whole Terrance Trent D'Arby uniqueness thing going on.

18. Jaspora is reggae sung in Jean's native Haitian French/Creole tongue
Although, much of the rest of the album, "The Carnival", is hip-hop "Sang Fezi", "Jaspora" and "Yele" are cultural/reggae songs.

15. You need to learn more about Vermont
It's a lot more diverse than you think. We have a huge annual Reggae Festival and my small town flies the Jamaican flag to honor the many Jamaicans that spend half the year here.

17. information on Dean and Jaspora

Later, Dean noted that his son, Paul, would have liked his choice of Jaspora by Wyclef Jean as his (Dean’s) favorite song. However, from the phone conversation with home it appears that Wyclef has yet to penetrate deep into the Dean household, the governor stating, “You don’t know who he is? He is a big favorite of Paul’s,” to his wife. (As to why Jaspora was selected as his favorite, Dean said he has more than one favorite song, this particular tune just jumped to the forefront. Could it be the CDs the kids leave behind in the car?)
