1. "successfully marketed" replaced issues last few elections
"wedge issue" is just a part of the marketing.

Current corporate marketing theory took off with the Reagan election.

It takes time for issues to sink in, while good marketing can up the polls and get an election win in weeks - provided the candidate is protected from "give and take".

Digby is right on point !!!!
