Here is a good account of Howard Dean's campaign visit to Huntsville, Alabama and a pretty good idea of how Dean plans to campaign in the south.
Dean, speaking to about 300 students and faculty at Alabama A&M, a historically black school, said it was time the South had an election that wasn't about race. "Every election in the South seems to be about race, because the Republicans alway make it about race."
Former Alabama Gov. Jim Folsom joined Dean at the event. Folsom said he has known Dean for 17-years and he is well suited to handle the country's growing budget deficit because he has always been fically conservative. Folsom also said Dean's roots in Vermont allow him to identify with Alabama voters. "Vermont is a rural state like we are and he knows what voters there think and want."
