Clark picks up quick endorsements
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 02:43 PM by goobergunch
<snip>

By Tuesday afternoon, several congressional Democrats had lined up behind Clark — including Arkansas Reps. Marion Berry, Mike Ross and Vic Snyder, Rep. Charles Rangel (N.Y.) and Rep. Betty McCollum (Minn.). Fabiani voiced confidence other members of Congress would support Clark but declined to name any.

Ross and Snyder dismissed suggestions that Clark’s Democratic opponents — including leading contenders such as Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and Sen. John Kerry (Mass.) — were too far ahead raising money and building a campaign organization to be beaten.

“The last person that ran from Arkansas announced Oct. 1 , and for the next eight years everybody called him president,” Ross said, referring to Clinton.

Spokesmen for Arkansas’ two senators, Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, both Democrats, would not say whether their bosses are backing Clark.

1. I expect many congressional democrats will line up behind Clark
The Democratic Party just like in 2002 doesn't want to be called wimps on national security. The way many of them handled it in 2002 was by voting for Bush's Iraqi resolution. Well, that war can now be described as "Bush's Folly" and so the next best thing is to support someone who opposed the war yet has impeccable national security credentials--what better than a General?

Some others will line up behind the other candidates on other issues, but my feeling is that many congressional dems will be on the Clark bandwagon for this reason--unless his candidacy fails to take off.

3. Charming.
Rahm's district is prime Dean territory. His constituents will NOT be amused.
