Steel tariffs backfire on Bush

Looks like the Bush team believes this backfired on them and could cost them TN, and WV next election, plus they will still lose PA and MI.

1. I love to hear people say this
In August, the union....issued a statement saying any of the Democratic candidates would offer better than “the reactionary policies of the current administration.”

2. The administration's policies - all of them
will backfire on them, and lose every state in the Union, embarrassing the Repukes for the next 150 years. Until they learn to stop lying and be honest again, then maybe, just maybe....

Nahhhhh.....

They don't know when to stop lying.

3. another Rove disaster
The myth that Rove is a political genius is just that. His only real claim to fame is getting Bush selected. As it is he lost the popular vote and if the votes had been coutned in Florida the electoral vote. Thank goodness for the conservative Supreme Court.

4. agreed, anyone but Shrum could have beaten Rove
I watched Shrum the incompetent during the Gore campaign and was so unimpressed.

No suprise to see Kerry flounder with Shrum at the helm.

5. I am so pleased with this in so many ways...
but as a western pennsylvanian by heritage, it hurts to see real progress made in creating a better future for peoples lives out there.

Tariffs was such a dumb idea. That industry is structurally lightyears behind those of other countries. It needs to either compete (without subsidy) or fail, and let these Americans look for work with future.

6. union strategy
seems to have collided with diffident arrogance concerning "free trade" treaties. Not enthused about truly supporting either in principle or fact. That's how you lose support permanently although they still have the Teamseters to game a bit at the upper levels. I think they were counting on a hardhat prowar union movement similar to Vietnam that alienated Labor from peace Dems or war losing Dems.

Ah, the timing again. Did they try to sahore up our failing steel industry because they KNEW war production was going to be strong and didn't want dependence on reluctant allies like Germany? At the early multi national meetings they tried to sell Europe on these odd exceptions with the Steelworkers' president on hand. Of course, then they decided to do war on the cheap and then concentrate on nukes.

WAY before 9/11.
