Dean Supporters: Tell your Dean Visibility Day activities

Today is Dean Visibility Day and we are making our presence known in cities and towns in every state across the country. For instance here in Madison,Wisconsin, we were at the Madison Farmers Market and at a major festival in the city--the Willy Street Fair--manning tables, signing people up, and handing our literature. Today is a Badger Football day and many "Deanies" (I'm finally getting to like that word)made our presence known at the stadium as tens of thousands of people make their way in and out of Camp Randall. In Milwaukee we did a leaflet drop in a predominently African-American neighborhood of the city.

The Governor himself is busy in New York today and I'm sure we will hear about his day and the rally in Hudson, NY. By the way, we are now above 410,000 volunteers with less than 39,000 more needed in the next nine days to reach the campaigns goal of 450,000 by the end of the month.

All I did was go to work and wear my "I Want My Country Back" tee shirt and my Dean button.. Got a few .."I like your shirt comments but I would have liked more interaction..

3. I do work in a "Cool Place"! And, yeah, it was my way for Dean Visibilty

Day. I wish I could have gone to Albany or even New York City but I'm sure we will hear from those Dean Supporters..can't wait..Woo Hoo! Whoopi Goldberg, Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo are going to be there, too, as I'm sure you know! :D

4. Flyering in downtown Chicago

I brought out my Dean Anagram shirts but we were a few heads shy of a full squad (10 people.) So four of us donned D, E, A, N and waved to cars and passersby.

some shouts of 'Anybody but Bush!', and the very occasional thumbs down.

One woman did get out of her car and screamed angrily at us that she would never vote for Dean. She obviously isn't voting in the Democratic primary, so I did not worry about her.

8. Pioneer Valley (MA) Dean Visibility

Here in the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass, we had about 6 groups of Dean supporters holding signs along about 20 miles of state route 9, one of the busiest roads in the area. (We were spread from Northampton to Belchertown, for anyone familiar with the area.)

I was at one of the sites from 10 to noon, along with four others. Lots of cars honked, about 1 in 10 probably, and I had a chance to talk to some pedestrians and cyclists. There were a few smartass Bushies, but the best they could come up with was "Uhhhh... I think he should be sued for malpractice!" or "Don't take away my tax cut!" (We had "the doctor is in" signs, hence the malpractice remark.)

Around here people seem to be pretty evenly split between Kerry, Dean, and to a lesser extent Kucinich. Dean's supporters are the best organized, though, which should translate to an advantage down the road.

in Western Mass. But this is my first time campaigning for anyone, and a National Visibility day was a great way to feel like I've joined the team.

9. I was one of the solitary Dean Visibility activists

We're still kind of recovering from the hurricane here, so I didn't organize a big event for this. I just wore my Dean shirt and took my twins out today to the store and on other errands.

14. somebody just made a comment on the Dean blog

that Trippi's goal for the last ten days when the bat comes up is--get this folks, $5,000,000. They said he was quoted as saying that in a newspaper article. My guess is that he already has broken the Clinton record of $10 million from '95--it will be interesting to see what the final numbers are. I wouldn't be surprised if Dean raises over $20 million this quarter.

15. Just wore shirts and buttons, put a sign in our window at home.

Hubby wore his shirt and a button to the store, stuck some flyers in his pocket. He did not approach anyone, but several came up to him to talk about Dean.

Surprisingly, one of them was his boss before retirement. He detested him then, but was surprised today. He pointed to the button and said he was a Republican, but he liked that guy. He said that's a good guy speaking the truth. I think my husband was stunned, but he gave him a button and flyer. We knew people were starting to wake up a little here, but that was a shock.

Two nearby cities had some things planned, but just individual things in our area.

19. Norwich and Danielson, CT Dean Visibility events

From 8:00 am - 11:00 am, 3 of us stood in the median of a busy intersection in Norwich, CT holding Dean signs and waving. Got lots of honks in favor of Dean, 3 thumbs down, 1 car claiming to be Lieberman supporters, and 1 car supporting Anyone But Bush.

From 05:00 - 09:00 PM did a tabling event at The Rain Desert www.raindesert.com . My friend from Worcester, MA came down to help and the Meetup host for Storrs, CT came. I played Dean's speeches on my laptop. Around 7:30 pm, a group from the Renaissance Fair in Woodstock came. One was a Clark supporter who came to the table. We had a friendly discussion. He hadn't heard about Clark's gaffe about supporting the Iraq War. Had 1 guy from Boston who already had signed up with the Dean Campaign. And a girl from Vermont, who had not signed up with the Dean Campaign. I signed her up.

Did wear my "I want my country back" t-shirt.

22. Bozeman MT

I came down with the flu, and couldn't attend any of these :-( I know that these two activities were planned:

1) Holding a giant banner with "HOWARD DEAN FOR PRESIDENT" on one of the busiest street corners in town.

2) Setting up a table with flyers outside of the food co-op. The co-op here has basically told our meetup group that we can do anything we want in support of Dean, so that's good :-)

23. My Visibility Day

My day started with my son's soccer game, where I proudly wore my Dean shirt. Also parked my Dean-stickered car (one sticker on the back bumper and one fresh new static-cling sticker on the side window!) where lots of people would see it.

After the game, I noticed that there was event at the park by my house; it was a walkathon fundraiser for Alzheimer's research. The walk was partly over when I got there, but I walked opposite the throngs (along a beautiful beach path, incidentally) so everyone could see my shirt.

There was a brunch event after, so I mingled into that. The first person to approach me about my shirt was an African-American man working one of the tables. He was well-versed about Dean (wanted to know what I thought of Clark) and we chatted a bit. Another older woman gave my shirt the thumbs-up, so I gave her a flyer with our local group's info on it. :)

Spent the rest of the day doing errands, still in my Dean t-shirt.

We went to dinner at a friend's house; we don't know them real well, they are the parents of our son's friend, but we are friendly. I suspected they were Republicans, but wasn't sure. During dinner the husband asked me if I would tell him about Howard Dean, since he'd seen me in my shirt so often, and the stickers on my car. They listened to what I had to say -- I focused on his economic plan, because they are mortgage brokers and follow economic news closely. He did seem genuinely impressed with Dean's stance on a balanced budget, and his record in Vermont. Not sure if I converted them, I still think they are Repubs, but you never know, at least I planted a seed. It wasn't quite the environment to challenge them about Bush; they were upset that our local city council had written a letter to DC about impeaching Bush -- not because they are defending Bush but because they think it will keep businesses and prospective home buyers away from Santa Cruz -- and I didn't want to push.

Finally, I came home tonight and signed up to host a House Party for the conference call on the 29th! Donated to the bat while I was at it.

Whew. Long, satisfying day.

Tomorrow I am going to the 49ers game with my son; guess what shirt I'm wearing?

24. Go Santa Cruz! I would love to be in Santa Cruz, Ca for all that

it has to offer! Good for you, Amerika! And I think it will attract "buisnesses and homeowners"! Like I said any place that has a City Council that wants to Impeach bush has a lot to offer!

25. Was under the weather, but

Like every weekend day-- when I'm out, it's in Dean Shirts w/ Dean stuff on the Cruiser. Get thumbs up, fingers pointing out the shirt and smiles all round...

Slowly but surely the word is getting out.
