The only poll we should worry about now: Bush Vs. Unnamed Dem
To anyone who sees how one of the 10 Democratic nominations stand up against Bush I tell you: Just move on!!! Don't waste your time looking at those polls and making assumptions that we're all doomed 14 months from now.

To anyone who who sees a poll that says that Al Gore, Joe Lieberman or Hillary Clinton could beat Bush, what I say is WAKE UP AND SMELL THE FUCKING COFFEE. Seriously, the DU is only 30 thousand members not 200million plus. Most people are more worried about their jobs and the economy than to be bothered with the names of the 10 presidental nominations. But most folks recognize who Al, Joe and Hillary are because Al was VP and ran for president, Joe ran for VP with Al and Hillary is a former first lady now senator. These folks have everyday name recognition but that does NOT mean they should be running for president.

The only poll we should keep our eyes on is the 'Bush vs. Unnamed Democratic' where lately that 'Unnamed Democratic' seems to be pulling ahead by a few points. You know what this poll stands for? Basically we're asking the public (a public that isn't familiar with the 10 nominees) would you prefer another 4 years of Bush or would you consider the democratic candidate.

Think about it - American voters are becoming disillusioned with George W. Bush and are indicating that the democrat (still unnamed) as the better choice. So instead of all this bickering with these dumb polls where names are named and they don't seem 'positive' we should instead look at the fact that Bush is losing popularity very quickly. And instead of bickering with each other we should go out and do all that we can do help keep folks recognizing that Bush is bad for America. Write letters to our editor, call our local talk shows on radio and just discuss about how the economy is sinking thanks to Bush.

We've got another six months until the nomination will be decided and we can help that eventual candidate by first, working hard to make sure the best candidate is nominated and secondly by getting the truth out there - BUSH IS BAD FOR AMERICA

1. problem is..
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 08:22 PM by leftyandproud
once you name a specific candidate, the numbers go down..

when people see "generic dem", they immediately picture their ideal candidate...Once "Dean", "Clark" or anyone else is inserted in that poll, the numbers drop because the candidates don't match all expectations. Of course, there is a case when this isn't true...When the truly ideal candidate is introduced..the dem number INCREASES..

Who is this mystery candidate?
(look to your LEFT)

;)

3. The value of the Bush vs. generic Dem polls is
they show Bush's vulnerability. The next step is finding the best candidate who can exploit that.

4. We're talking 14 months before the election
Geez, of course it does!!!!!

You go back to September of 1991 I'm sure Bill Clinton's number weren't that impressive against Bush Sr.

We have FOURTEEN MONTHS to make our eventual nominee electable. Best way for us to do that is to make sure that we make Bush Jr. UNELECTABLE!!!!!

6. I disagree
The numbers go down when a specific candidate is named not because they don't match with people's ideals, but because they don't know the positions of that candidate, so they cannot say in good conscience that they would vote for that someone. However, when asked if 'unnamed dem' would get their vote over bush, they are being asked if they would vote for someone with Democratic Party ideals over bush.

12. well...part of that is name recognition
When the numbers drop for individual candidates, that's usually because a substantial number haven't heard of them and are thus more likely to vote for Bush.

5. I appreciate your post here and elsewhere on this.
I think the important national polling number is the "re-elect" number. It's in the low 40's and no Prez* has ever been re-elected* with a number below 43%.

He's toast.

7. "Sept 1999: Bush has SEVENTEEN point lead on Gore."
poskonig posted this HIGHLY relevant link in another thread:

Sept 15th 1999:
http://cgi.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1999/09/15/president.2000/poll/

But Texas Gov. George W. Bush has a six-to-one advantage over his nearest rival, Elizabeth Dole, with all other GOP hopefuls in single digits. In a hypothetical two-way match-up, Bush maintains a comfortable advantage over Gore -- 56 percent to 39 percent -- and a 57 percent to 37 percent advantage over Bradley.

8. I LIKE Unnamed Dem!
I'm not sure about his stance on the war, or what he's (she's?) going to do about the economy, but I'm ready to work for Unnamed Dem's campaign. I didn't find a web site up at unnameddem04.com yet, though :)

9. Wavy said it best
This is a story about four people: EVERYBODY, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY, and NOBODY.

There was an important job to be done and EVERYBODY was sure that SOMEBODY would do it.

ANYBODY could have done it, but NOBODY did it.

SOMEBODY got angry about that, because it was EVERYBODY's job.

EVERYBODY thought ANYBODY could do it, but NOBODY realized that EVERYBODY wouldn't do it.

It ended up that EVERYBODY blamed SOMEBODY when NOBODY did what ANYBODY could have done.

Of all the choices for President, who is perfect?

....NOBODY....

Who lowered the taxes?

....NOBODY....

Who lowered the gas prices?

....NOBODY....

Who brought peace to our times?

....NOBODY....

Who balanced the budget?

....NOBODY....

Who lives forever and works for nothing?

....NOBODY....

Who stopped censorship on the net?

....NOBODY....

Who loves you when you're down and out?

....NOBODY....

Who bakes apple pie better than Mom?

....NOBODY....

and NOBODY will continue to do these things until SOMEBODY takes the responsibility to get the job done!

....PLEASE, <> REGISTER and VOTE!

Right now the polls with Bush a gainst unknown democrats is only showing the dislike for Bush. I don't think the people are even thinking about the democrat at this time in the game.
