Emisarries from Paradise Warm to Braun
Stuff http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,2668386a6160,00.html">reports:
New Zealand would have "no objection" if Carol Moseley Braun, a former United States ambassador to New Zealand, was selected as the Democrats presidential nominee, Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff said today.

....(blah blah diplomatic niceties)....

The first former US senator to hold the post in New Zealand, she was widely popular in diplomatic and government circles.

Reminded me of an older story I read in support of the first Maori American Presidential Candidate--yeah, Moseley Braun of course.
A dynamic Maori wahine is currently running for President of the United States. Her skin is brown, she's a former Senator and self-described "Ambassador to Paradise", and like many others in the emerging Maori intellectual and political classes she is a lucid and powerful speaker who keeps Maori issues and tikanga close to her heart. In a Democratic Party Primary rally speech she made mention of her Maori people.

I don't know exactly why, but I do believe she was popular among our mates in New Zealand. Maybe it was her positions--although those were essentially Clinton's-- or her smile, or her bearing, or her heroics (she came to the aid of a dying helicopter pilot; ended tragically I'm afraid.)

Please, no Whale Rider spoilers. It's not coming to our town for another couple of weeks.
