CLINTWOOD - With a belief that Southwest Virginia is ready for a change, Clintwood native Kevin Triplett announced Monday his intent to run for Congress in 2004.

Kevin Triplett will seek the Republican nomination in the Ninth Congressional District. Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, has held the seat for more than 20 years.

Triplett officially threw his hat in the ring Monday morning at the Dickenson County Republican Party headquarters before a crowd of supporters, family and long-time friends.

"Southwest Virginia is our home. It is where my wife and I were educated and it is where we went to our first Sunday school, " said Triplett, a former NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) executive.
