Republican campaigner for 2 Bushes backs Dean
Concord--Democrat Howard Dean's stance against the war in Iraq has brought him supporters from across party lines in New Hampshire.

Hilary Cleveland of New London, wife of the late congressman James Cleveland, and a prominent campaigner for both President Bushes, is helping organize a Republicans-for-Dean movement.

Dean announced the names of 40 Republicans who will serve on a steering committee. Cleveland says she's been a lifelong Republican, but will switch her party registration to independent so she can vote for Dean in the primary. "I have been disappointed in the Bush Administrations policies in Iraq, and Former Gov. Dean has best articulated why we should not have gone to war in Iraq. I like his emphasis on the importance of internationalism and fis fiscal program," Cleveland said.

2. GREAT NEWS
No matter which Dem you support. This woman would vote for the proverbial ham sandwich before voting for the boy king. I love it!

My brother-in-law, who is only nominally informed on political issues, called me the other day to tell me he's finally seen the light and won't be casting a vote for chimpie, either. What did it? He actually sat down and read the PATRIOT Act. No kidding. Turned him off the Repubs completely.

Let the good times roll!

I predict dancing in the streets when the boy king is ousted next year.

5. An across-the-nation party should be planned
the minute that Chimpy is tossed out on the streets and an arrest warrant for high treason along with Crashcart is issued because there's mounting evidence against both of them as well as John Asscroft for abusing the PATRIOT Act. They can use that act against them.

They will be extradicted to the Hague along with his BFEE family.

3. hmmm
If we apply the same 'purity test' others are applying to Clark, Dean should reject her help and kick her elderly butt to the curb. :eyes:

6. who's applying the purity test?
We welcome crossover voters but according to some people Dean can't get any independent or republican support like ex-republican Clark can. Of course in the NH polls Dean leads both among Democratic voters and Independents in the primary.

4. And why not?
Dean is a self-admitted fiscal conservative, who probably shares a lot of economic views with more moderate (i.e. non "religious right") Republicans.

Since Dubya ran as a fiscal conservative but has governed as anything but that, it's only logical that these ex-Bush supporters would look for a candidate who shares their economic beliefs.

The more the merrier, I say. :)

9. Dean is an ex-neo-liberal
Laws and trade agreements that empower only corporations are ixnay as far as he's concerned. At one time he supported NAFTA, but he now considers it a mistake. Fair-trade ideas are at the core of his policy statements.

7. My right wing Borther-in-law...
dropped a bomb on me last night....I joked with him about being a repug and he said that "that's over....i've switched..."

After I got over the shock, I asked him why and he said..."he's finally come to realive that the only party that looks out for the poor and middle class in the country is the Democrats..."

Seems that even though we can screw up sometimes, at least we have the people who need the most help at heart and we always try to improve our society for everyone, and not just for the rich...so I gave him the old line...

"If you want to live like a Republican, you have to vote like a Democrat..." To which he laughed and said, yeah you are probably right about that....

My friends, the tide is turning!!!!!

12. This is wonderful.
The pendulum is swinging our way. Let's start thinking of which obnoxious repugs we can get dumped in 2004 along with the Warrior Chimp.

13. This is one of the things I like about Dean
I think he has the best chance to build a wide-ranging independent/center/left coalition that could attract dissatisfied Republicans as well.

14. That's impressive.
I've seen many "Republicans for so-and-so" efforts before, but none that seem as successful as Dean's.

The other day I was talking to some of the Austin people and they say a large portion of the people they have signed up are those who voted for Bush but are now disgusted with his policies... usually either the war or the extreme pandering to fundies.
