WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, marking the end of a truce in the GOP primary ad war for his seat, vowed Friday to "retaliate" against Rep. Pat Toomey if a group allied with the congressman refuses to immediately halt radio spots that blast the senator as liberal.
The broadcast bickering begins anew only a week after both sides agreed to end all primary ads until after the Nov. 4 elections to prevent any negative aftershocks for Republican candidates in Pennsylvania's judicial and local races.
"We have some very devastating things to say," Specter said. Toomey "has started a negative campaign, violated Reagan's Eleventh Commandment, and we're going to retaliate in kind."
"We're sitting on $10 million, and when he starts a negative campaign, he's running big, big risks," Specter said.
