He is very centrist, even conservative, for a DEM--a classic DLC-DINO type who opposed Pelosi in the house as "too liberal."

One more reason to switch to Dean.

As far as Dean goes, he's the most DLC centrist of ALL the candidates. Are you disregarding his 11 year record on the compromising centrist wing of the DLC for his 9 month old conversion to populism?

The nominee is either going to be:

1. A member of the DLC

2. A retired general woh favors DLC policies and is supported by many DLCers

3. A former governor whose governed like DLCer.

he is results-oriented. He is willing to stray from ideology if he thinks it might produce results. He does not toe the CBC line or the DLC line...he is very independent minded, and he is respected on both sides of the aisle as someone who is reasonable and can help get things done by building coalitions and working out compromises. He can be great at bashing the Republicans, and he fights hard for the causes he cares about, but he comes across as someone who really cares about getting something accomplished rather than preaching about why the Republicans are evil. I really respect Harold Ford, and I would not be surprised if 20-30 years from now he becomes our country's first black president.

ford isn't old enough for 2004. i think he misses by 1 year. but if he was, i think he would be a top consideration for any candidate for vice president. but i'm hoping he runs for senate. he has years ahead of him to run for president after that.

That definetly doesn't make him a repuke, or even close to one. I'm not happy with his attack on Pelosi either, but that's politics and he was playing the game.

He is a democrat and most often votes with democrats so he need not be bashed everytime he is mentioned. Especially when he is actually doing what most of us agree with (ie. bashing novak and the right).

There is a south, there are conservative Democrats, whether we like it or not. I am proud to have Ford on the Kerry team, he's generally been a good spokesperson for Democrats. He's going to do great things for this campaign, we've just gotten started!
