time.

Interesting about Judicial Watch...but Klayman is kind of kooky--equal opportunity kooky, but still.

3. Klayman's very kooky
he just announced he's running as a Repuke for senator from Fla. so he can hold Hillary Clinton accountable for her many "crimes." I would not use Judicial Watch as a source against any of our candidates; it's like using RW crap about Clark.

I am sure he will release the papers......He really has no other choice. Secrecy is not one of the seven virtues. It's not just what you say that counts, it's what you do.

Judicial Watch is not the end-all be-all but
I think Dean gets away with way too much finger
pointing in general. People need to look at this
guy a little closer. I don't buy his rhetoric.
His rolled-up sleeve bit is phony. At least Clark
had the class to admit who he voted for and state
he was non-partisan until recently.

12. Every time this has come up I have asked the same question
and every time I have gotten stiffed. Maybe you will be the first one not to stiff me. I want a link where I can see the following for Wes Clark. Any correspondence between Clark and junior officers. Any correspondence between Clark and senior officers. Any correspondence between Clark and his clients. This, and only this, is what has been sealed for Dean. So can I have my link?

21. Maybe Kerry should release all his senatorial papers then
All of his correspondence with constituents, lobbyists, party leaders, etc., and all of his memos and stuff like that. I know this is not required of senators, but maybe your candidate ought to do this to set a good example of public disclosure.

8. This is not unusual. Certainly, it ain't * and Cheney.
Bush had his records sealed, literally, as part of his father's papers.

Cheney refuses to obey court orders to release records.

Don't start comparing Dean's MOA with those two turkeys. It is the difference between night and day.

I just posted this link. I didn't say it was true
or not. It's up to people to decide for themselves.
I just thought people should know.

---

On another note, I still think Dean is hypocritical
and cheap. He was #1 on my list in May, since Clark came
on the scene,he was my #2, but after lying about Clark for two
days, he is dead last of the 10 candidates.

Yes, I said lying. He lied in the plain light of day.
I have read practically everything about Clark that
has come out in the last several months. I have also
read all the links/transcripts to stuff that has come
out on Clark like the Pulaski GOP thing. Clark has
never said he was a Republican, nor did he do anything
to warrant that. This bit was started by Drudge and Dean
truly is doing Rove's work. Dean has been associated with working
in a Family Planning clinic, does that mean he has done
abortions? No. Will Drudge use this against him in the general
election? You bet. Should Clark try shit like what Dean and Drudge
do just to get elected? Hell no.

Dean has the wool pulled over his supporters
eyes. Perhaps, Clarkies have pulled the wool over their own
eyes but from what I can see, Clark has been far more transparent
than Dean.

These are just my opinions but I make no apology for them.
Sure, I should be more "positive" about Democratic candidates
but I am only following the standard set by Dean. If he
apologizes and retracts his statements about Clark, I will
apologize for being negative here on DU.

I don't represent Clark or his behavior, frankly he has kept
a higher moral ground than I. But hey, I'm not running for
President. I am just frustrated we finally have a guy on our
team who has stature, credentials, and a vision that will
render the opposition impotent and some in this party
have pissed on him. Deanies have even invaded Clark's official
blog to piss on him. What low class.

Dean may win the nomination, but he will lose sorely to Bush
and we will all be embarrassed. I am tired of losing elections and
tired of the right gaining inch by inch every last shred of power.

25. A candidate who calls on others to release records has little

basis for complaint when others call on him to do the same.

The quote (or quotes) I keep seeing from Dean stress that he's protecting himself, not gays who might have written to him and not wish to be outed, as has been suggested here more than once. I'd think that names of such people could be blacked out in copies released, anyway, unless they're in government, too. Here's that quote (bolded) in a paragraph from the Judicial Watch site:

"With respect to the basis for Dean’s decision to seal his gubernatorial papers, recent press reports have quoted Dean (in an interview with Vermont Public Radio) as stating: “Well, there are future political considerations. We didn’t want anything embarrassing appearing in the papers at a critical time in any future endeavor.

The following paragraph has another Dean quote, which I've also bolded:

“On September 15, 2003, Dean called on Vice President Cheney to ‘level with the American public’ and release the Cheney Energy Task Force records. While we appreciate Dean’s implicit support of our ongoing litigation on behalf of the American people’s interests in accountable and transparent government, we believe he should follow his own advice. Dean’s acting like he has something to hide. It’s time for Dr. Dean to come clean and release his papers,” stated Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton."

I don't know if there's anything embarrassing in Dean's records. It could be he worries too much. According to the Boston Globe, he also checked out his draft records to make sure *they* wouldn't be embarrassing. Selective Service records aren't kept forever, though, at least not the letter from an orthopedist and the X-rays that Dean took to his physical when he was a senior at Yale, or the letter Dean wrote requesting the physical, or any notes or comments the military doctor(s) might have written. Apparently they just kept your basic information, including draft classification.

28. Larry Klayman of Judicial Watch
sued his own mother. When Clinton was going through the impeachment fiasco, Larry Klayman was front row and center to file lawsuits on behalf of bimbos who wanted to jump on the bandwagon by claiming that "Bill dumped them" or "Bill promised undying love, then jilted me" or worse, "Bill raped me." All those lawsuits were thrown out.

It's laughable that you would post a link to Judicial Watch, hardly a credible or progressive source of material, to support your belief that Dean is deceptive and a hypocrite.

Larry Klayman is a certifiable lunatic and I'm surprised Judical Watch is still at it after losing all the cases filed by people going after Bill Clinton.

Where are you going to get your future anti-Dean articles? Newsmax or the Drudge Report? They are in the same league as Judicial Watch and just as credible.

I am not pro JW. I just thought people should know
JW has it's eye on Dean. That's all.

I still think Dean is a terrible hypocrite but that
is because he bashes other dems and whines when they
fight back, it has nothing to do with the Judicial
Watch article. I am sure sooner or later, JW will have
something on Clark. It's no big deal either way.

35. Dean's not here...
that's why you don't see him whining here.
In order to see Dean whining, all you have to do
is watch him respond to pressure brought to bear by
Gephardt. This was evident in the last debate as
well as media interactions thereafter.

Dean: "I am the only Democrat here" -- paraphrasing
Gephardt "Then why did you want to shrink medicare?" -- paraphrasing
Dean: "Quit attacking me, Bush is the enemy" -- paraphrasing.

Oh, and that reminds me of another thing. It's not going to
go over real well when Bush and Co. remind the American electorate
that Dean called Bush "the enemy" but referred to Hamas terrorists
as "soldiers". They may have been slips of the tongue, but we will
all pay for them. Why haven't Drudge, Limbaugh, Bush, & Co. said
anything about that yet? Because they want Dean to win the nomination. But if Dean wins, just wait and see how many times
this will be repeated. Don't forget that it has been reported that
Dean has worked at a family planning clinic, watch for Bush & Co.
to turn that into "Dean has done abortions" and watch people fall
for it. The reason I point this out is that Bush et al. have went
out of their way to smear Clark now, before they have to actually
deal with him. By comparison, they have practically promoted Dean.
The honeymoon will end the day Dean wins that nomination and it is
my opinion that of all the major candidates, Dean will have the
least ability to fight back. But don't take my word for it, just
look at the last several polls.

Until I came across this story, I wasn't under the impression that there was much to hide with regard to Dean's tenure as Governor - and there may not be. But Dean's actions here are more likely to raise imaginary questions than protect his reputation.

37. Let Me Shoot Down Some Of The Crap Here
First of all, it says right on the page that this Larry Klayman guy stepped down before the Dean statement.

Secondly, these guys went very hard after the Cheney documents. Some have suggested here that this is a pro-Cheney group, which they clearly are not. I don't know much about what they did during Clinton's stint, but I do know that they earned at least some respect for vigorously pursuing Cheney's energy documents.

Thirdly, if this were Kerry sealing his documents, do you really believe for a second all these Dean supporters would hesitate for a second to harp on this endlessly?

I'm happy that Dean was anti-resolution, but that doesn't give him a free ride. For his most zealous supporters, though, any mention of Dean wrongdoing is nothing short of blasphemy.

38. Thankyou for some sanity in this imature thread
DISCLAIMER: I support Dean, donated some money today.

This Judicial Watch thing doesnt bother me one bit though, why you might ask?

Becuase Judicial Watch is a bipartisan group that is for transparency and promotes accountability in government.

The fact that it goes after both dems and repubs gives me solace in that I know political corruption is a phenomenon that afflicts the right and the left.

accountability and transparency, last i checked those were still liberal values. this is still a liberal board, isnt it, or have we become simple minded knee jerkers that react predictably to things we disagree with... open your minds folks
