Mayor Street of Philadelphia loses cool at union rally

Mayor John Street lost his cool at a union meeting last weekend, shouting at a roomful of blue-collar municpal workers whose endorsement he is trying to win that he would, "win this election without you if I have to!"

From what I've read the Mayor's re-election campaign is not doing too well. Imagine the field day the press will have if we lose the California Recall, The Philadelphia Mayorship, and if we lose any of our Governors races in Mississippi and Kentucky where Democrats are currently Governor. Yikes!! at least they couldn't blame it on Bush's "popularity" or could they? with the media anything is possible.

2. Street's in major trouble

And that's because of bad mistakes on his point. Very early on he alienated whites in the city by stating that "the bruthas and the sistas are in charge".

It seems like Street is headed toward defeat. The only thing that can save him is the overwhelming Democratic edge in Philadelphia. What Streets needs to do is say Katz=Bush II. His argument should also be:

If you vote for Katz then you will be helping Bush win PA next year. A Katz victory means that Bush will have a base with which to carry the state next year.

Right now I see Katz winning this race. Street has made too many mistakes, too many dumb comments. While Katz is still ahead his victory is not assured, as I do think some of the Democrats supporting him will come home in the final days to support Street. However, I doubt that that will be enough to win the race.

10,000 African-Americans have been registered to vote in Philadelphia. That may save Street. But right now, if I had to predict a winner, I would say it would be Katz.

I am not a fan of Street by far, but I think a Katz victory will help Bush and Specter next year in those races.

But there's a month left in the race and Street could win it back.
