1. great news, and he should be....
building a very strong base in the south, even if he doesn't win the nomination he can help deliver the south as a VP.

3. No he can't
Sorry, but John Edwards would have to fight tooth and nail to carry any Southern states against Bush if he were at the TOP of the ticket. He's certainly not going to be able to "deliver" any Southern states if the candidate at the top of the ticket lacks Southern appeal.

If the Democrats want to carry any Southern states, they'd be wise to put TWO Southernors on the ticket. Clark/Edwards anyone?

4. Clark has the most room to grow
According to the report, of the top four, despite his high ranking, Clark has the lowest voter awareness amongst the undecided. That means they haven't heard of him, and he hasn't campaign there. They don't even know he's running, and yet he's already second place. That bodes well for him.

5. North Carolina will likely fall in behind Edwards
Political climate changing in the south, with job losses, loosing health insurance...When a man child has needs, they will forget all the religious hype and vote for someone like Edwards

6. NC, SC, GA, LA, ARK, TN and FL
and maybe OK too -- these are all winnable IF we have the right candidate. Edwards can win them. Don't bet against him. These people are hurting under GWB, and GWB has abandoned them on veteran's rights, jobs, and civil liberties (which the South cares about) -- Edwards will win many of those states.

8. two thoughts:
1) Lieberman is tanking. His campaign is doomed. Democrats simply don't like him. All he has going for himself is name recognition.

2) Sharpton and Braun have 9% of the vote in SC. I wish one of them would drop out. I feel Braun has little to offer other than the fact that she is a woman.

17. 2) Two more thoughts

2a. Sharpton and Braun, either one of them are within striking distance of second place in SC at this point. So they should just quit?--uh uh.

2b. There's a reason Bruan's favorability continues to rise. She has a whole lot to offer. As a matter of fact besides Edwards she's the only one clearly showing positive momentum--Clark being new, we can't say much about his momentum. Dean's boost from August is definitely confirmed, but he may not have gained any real support since then. Sharpton could be gaining incrementally, but not enough to say for sure at this time. So for the clearest case of positive momentum there's Edwards, and next to him Braun.

Your opinion doesn't seem to reflect the polling data here.

11. Congrats to Edwards and his supporters!
Edwards deserves to win SC, what with it being in his own backyard.

Although he's not my first choice for prez, he's a good man and an asset to the party.

If he doesn't beat the odds and win the nomination, I hope his talents will be put to use, perhaps as Veep or Atty General.

14. Don't get excited

American Research Group is NOT a legitimate polling firm. It is based in Manchester, NH, where it has a reputation in the political community as a fly-by-night fraud.

I know for a fact that the pollster, Dick Bennett, loves Howard Dean and loathes Joe Lieberman and John Kerry. His numbers generally reflect his own opinion, so take this survey with a shaker full of salt.

16. Edwards internal poll the same
Didn't we see an Edwards internal poll with about the same numbers (lower for Dean admittedly) last week? Whatever you think about Dick Bennett, these numbers look a lot like those numbers. I think the Edwards campaign has every reason to be excited. He's leading in one of the big three and is gaining in the other two.

15. Yay Edwards!
I like him more and more each debate. He has some great ideas, and carries himself quite presidentially.
