Sharpton Campaign Manager Resigns

Democratic presidential candidate Al Sharpton's campaign manager has left the campaign.

Frank Watkins said Tuesday that he and Sharpton's South Carolina coordinator, Kevin Gray, had resigned. Both men had worked on the Rev. Jesse Jackson's presidential campaigns in the 1980s.

Watkins will remain an unpaid adviser to the campaign, Sharpton said in a news statement Tuesday. Watkins said he was stepping down for personal reasons and still will vote for Sharpton.

Watkins will be replaced by political operative Charles Halloran, who is charged with reorganizing Sharpton's campaign, including auditing his fund-raising.

1. This is not good news.

I think that Al needs to stay but I think he might bail on this. I like Al and I think he is a champion Democrat. Of course if the money is not there, I will understand. Al has to be a super delagate for sure. It has to be, NYC is his city.

2. Money has always been the main block for democratic

candidates. I do say, that Al Sharpton has utilized this platform to showcase his excellent and insightful political savvy. He is a great communicator. He is a teacher when he speaks. I have a new found respect for Al Sharpton. He has given the Democratic Party a strong and respectful voice for the people.

He will advance politically as a result of this campaign.

While I don't expect him to drop out before Iowa, New Hampshire or South Carolina, he isn't destined for the White House this year. On the other hand, because of his increased profile, his strong positions, the fact he is the only candidate capable of telling rabble rousers at the debates to shut up, and his ability to sit down with Stephen Colbert and act like he is having a post debate interview BEFORE the debate and have fun doing it means Al Sharpton won't be going away very soon.
