Daily Yomiuri: Peace candidate (Kucinich) has global appeal
This one died a quick death in GD. Thought people here might find it interesting.

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/newse/20031004woc1.htm

Sadakazu Sasaki tingled with excitement when he held a copy of Denisu Kushinitchi: Amerika ni Heiwa no Daitoryo o (Dennis Kucinich: Elect a Pacifist President for the United States, 1,500 yen, Natural Spirit). As a sales-marketing member of the staff of a small Tokyo publisher, which mainly puts out New Age books, he had never sold a publication on politics or economics.

But now Sasaki can take pride in being involved in the movement for world peace by doing his job: marketing a book comprising a selection of speeches and statements by Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, who is running for the Democratic Party nomination for U.S. president.

After the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States, the U.S.-led bombings in Afghanistan and the Iraq war, "an increasing number of young people are participating in peace meetings. We now know whoever is elected the next U.S. president could have a direct impact on us," he said. "If so, we want a person who promotes world peace and this book is a good tool for the movement."

<edit>

"For most people, he is hardly known. But, if peace-loving people all over the world act for a pacific president, we could make a difference," Kikuchi said. "At least, his messages will get to be reported by the U.S. mainstream media if he puts up a good fight."

Kikuchi and her husband, Gen Morita, decided to compile a book of translations from a selection of Kucinich's speeches. When they put out an appeal in cyberspace, many volunteered to help translate his messages into Japanese.

6. DK proposed the Dept of Peace in July 2001
to the US Congress.....

I'd say thats a good start...he has also been very consistent in opposing bushwa's wars...

He is not the "only" but IMO he is the most honest , consistent & vocal about his desire for peace.....check his website and the Dept of Peace- for me its the only direction we can to go if we want to continue living on this planet....

Peace...

7. Thats not what this is about Alex
Peace overall. It means a lot more than just the current war, DK wants to make war a rare thing overall, Dean and Clark maybe while not hawks are far from preaching this message of peace overall. Thats the point to this,

8. You know it doesn't do any good
to be upset with Kucinich for being a strong voice for Peace, not for you, not for Dean and not for anyone else. Get onto your candidate or switch if you aren't happy with what Dean says, but don't get angry with the rest of us because our candidate's position on military force is strong, clear and welcomed internationally.

10. Dennis is the only candidate who opposed the invasion from the beginning
No woffling, no special pleading. He gave voice in Congress to what people all over the world were saying in the streets: the invasion and massacre was a murderous land-grab for which there was no smallest justification.

11.  I don't know who died.
I do know what makes him the "peace" candidate, though:

2003 recipient of the Ghandi Peace Award

http://www.pepeace.org/tmpl/gandhi.html

Department of Peace.

The most vocal voice in congress in opposition to the invasion of Iraq. The earliest and most vocal voice in congress to say "bring them home." The list of speeches, letters, and actual actions in congress would need a thread of its own.

Peace activists endorsing Kucinich:

Louise Diamond, Arun Gandhi, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Scout Cloud Lee, Amanda Martin, Avon Mattison, Dr. Nina Meyerhof, STAR*PAC (Stop the Arms Race Politicical Action Committee, Nickolai Parker, Bill & Beth Riedler, Harry Rogers, Kim Weichel, Patrick West, John Zavales, Rev. Jack Zylman

5. Thx for reposting Karmadillo
This is really cool!!

Heard last night at the Kucinich meetup from a former Dutch national - now US citizen- that Europe is very well aware of Dennis and many many support him! Too bad they can't vote,eh?

Heard also from my German friends here in the states that their friends over in Germany also really "love" Dennis and what he wants for the US....and of course they really "dislike/fear bushwa.

Just met with a Japanese couple today...they were buying art and we didn't really get a chance to discuss politics....will have to lean a bit of Japanese I guess for the next time!

Dennis John Kucinich rocks!!

Peace!!

13. Kucinich would have a leg up with most of the countries of the world
because he really believes in diplomacy, international treaties and fair treatment for people by U. S. corporations.

He would come to the WH with massive good-will and international support.

Can't you see Bush's face if someone told him about this report?(Hits golf ball through WH window.)"I thought I told you to take care of these focus groups!!"

Thanks so much for posting this excellent news account. It is sad that Dennis currently gets better press in Japan than in the USA. Change is coming.

19. no other country..
has an abhorence to nuclear weapons like japan. also, since world war 2, partially because their inability to actively seek military action, they have been very pro-peace. no country has really seen the affects of weapons of mass destruction like japan.

the atomic bomb still hits a raw nerve.
