NH: 4 of 6 Dem state senators endorse Kerry.
NH State Senator Iris Estabrook Endorses John Kerry
4 of 6 Democratic State Senators Now Supporting Kerry

October  07,  2003

Manchester -
State Senator Iris Estabrook (D-District 21) today announced her decision to back John Kerry in his campaign for President, giving Kerry the support of four of the six Democratic State Senators in New Hampshire.

“I have watched the Democratic candidates for president before a variety of different audiences over the past six months, and it is clear to me that John Kerry is the one who can beat George Bush. Even more importantly, it is clear that John Kerry can put this country back on the right track, on jobs, education, health care, the environment, foreign policy, and national security, because John Kerry is the one candidate with long experience and vision on both domestic and national security issues,” said Sen. Estabrook. “Through his service as a U.S. Senator, John Kerry understands the seriousness of the threats to our national security, and as a decorated combat veteran he also understands the seriousness of the use of military force.”

Senator Estabrook, who is in her first term representing Dover, Durham, Epping, Lee and Rollinsford in the State Senate, served for three terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives where she was the Assistant Democratic Leader for Education Policy. During her seven years in the Statehouse, Estabrook successfully has sponsored a number of major pieces of legislation, including the establishment and funding of the Granite State Scholars Program, telemarketing do-not-call legislation, and legislation to make it easier to pass school construction bonds in SB 2 towns and school districts.

John Kerry said, “I am just delighted to have Iris Estabrook’s help and support in New Hampshire. Iris has been a leader on the issue so critical to our children’s future and our future economic prosperity – improving our public schools. Having Iris Estabrook join my New Hampshire team at this time means a great deal to me and my campaign, and I am grateful.”

Other Democratic State Senators endorsing John Kerry are Senate Democratic Leader Sylvia Larsen (Dist 15 ), Clifton Below (Dist 5), and Burt Cohen (Dist 24).

2. I don't see much press for Kerry at all.
I see he gets SOME, but nowhere near the media attention Dean and Clark receive.

Even the Fire Fighters endorsement didn't get any interest from the media, and that's one of the most coveted endorsements in politics. Not to mention the Hart endorsement which got ZERO coverage on the network newschannels.

4. Like it or not
Gary Hart is old news. When Metzenbalm, who by any standard had a pretty great career in the Senate himself, endorsed Dean it was on page a14 of the Plain Dealer (Metzenbalm's hometown paper). Like it or not, people who don't hold office anymore aren't considered that important in all but the most unusual of cases.

3. The press will tune in to Kerry once the new round of public polls show
what is being reported by private surveys. Namely, Kerry on top or close to the top in Iowa and a very tight race is taking shape in NH. Also, he is the most popular among senior voters in NH and is widely considered more electable.
