Dean, Kerry, Lieberman, Sharpton, Braun gain in new Gallup Poll
The latest Gallup poll out today indicates that Gen. Clark still leads the Democratic race but that his lead has shrunk from nine to five points over his nearest rival, Gov. Dean.

The poll also indicates that Dean, Kerry, Lieberman, Sharpton, and Braun each showed improvement since the last poll, while Gephardt and Edwards fell. Clark essentially stayed the same as did Kucinich.

Clark: 21% (22% in previous poll)
Dean 16% (13% in previous poll)
Lieberman 13% (10% in previous poll)
Kerry 13% (11% in previous poll)
Gephardt 8% (11% in previous poll)
Sharpton 6% (up from 4%)
Braun 4% (up from 3%)
Edwards 2% (down from 4%)
Kucinich 2% (no change)
Other/undecided 15%

1. At this point ...
I really don't care who beats Bush next year.

The only thing I want is "Press Secretary Rev. Al Sharpton"

This man has a lot of class and charisma. I used to think he was a nut, but I have a rebirth of respect for this man. It is hard not to smile ear to ear when this man is speaking.

Cheers
Drifter

4. Al Sharpton is the man!
I used to think Al Sharpton was a little Whacko also. I was a little worried when he said that he was running. I will say though he has a great message and he gets is point across. Unfortunately the US isn't ready for a Black President but he sure deserves an administration post that plays to his talents. Press Secretary is a great idea. White House Spokesperson, or hell create a post Secretary of the Common Sense perhaps.

9. sharpton is a master of sound bites, but
... when you analyze them later, many of them are not quite sound.

2. Makes me wonder if Clark is going to be able to build on name recognition
Doesn't look like he has so far.

I think the real winner in this is Dean, since he is now gaining in national polls--doesn't appear as if he's peaked. Others are growing, but he still maintains lead in state polls.

3. National Poll is Meaningless
Doesn't matter if my favorite is 1st, 2nd, 6th, or 9th. We don't have a national primary, and these polls, especially this far out, just aren't worth anything.

7. Polling info from Oklahoma, South Carolina, etc. would be more useful
in determining the frontrunner. Therefore I agree.

6. National polls right now are based upon name recognition
Dean has a formidable campaign organization and Clark does not. As the primaries heat up, it will be the campaign organization that defeats media hype.

8. Despite his generally negative public image,
Rev. Al Sharpton is doing very well in the debates, and I find myself agreeing with him on nearly every point he raises, so I am NOT surprised that he is actually creeping up in the polls.
