MANCHESTER—“It is important that we celebrate the sense of hope and community that is part of National Coming Out Day,” said Governor Dean. “As President, I will fight for the civil rights for all Americans, including those in the GLBT community.”
President Bush, who campaigned as a “uniter not a divider,” chose instead to divide Americans by declaring the week following National Coming Out Day to be “Marriage Protection Week.”
Governor Howard Dean will celebrate National Coming Out Day with more than 60 house parties across the country via a live conference call. The National Coming Out Day house parties will offer members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community and their allies an opportunity to learn about Governor Dean’s vision for America.
Howard Dean made history when, as Governor of Vermont, he signed legislation granting gay couples the right to enter into civil unions.
Robert Gant, star of Showtime’s hit series “Queer as Folk,” will introduce Governor Dean on the live conference call, which will begin at 8:45 p.m. EST during the National Coming Out Day house parties.
