It's official. Dennis kicks off his candidacy.
Subj: Kucinich Officially Launches!
Date: 10/13/2003 6:12:00 Pacific Daylight Time
From: info@kucinich.us
Sent from the Internet (Details)

IT'S OFFICIAL
This afternoon, Dennis J. Kucinich formally announces for president... in Cleveland and then in Detroit; Manchester, NH; Madison, Wis. And 11 states total in 3 days. As the Kick-Off Tour proceeds, Dennis will be joined by supporters from politics and the arts -- including singer Ani DiFranco (Austin, TX), Studs Terkel (Chicago), actress Mimi Kennedy (multiple cities). For more: http://www.kucinich.us/schedule_announce.htm

HOUSEPARTIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY
To celebrate the campaign's official launch and to raise much needed funds, house parties are being held in communities from coast to coast. To get involved: http://www.kucinich.us/houseparties/houseparty.php

NEW KUCINICH SUPPORTERS JOIN KICK-OFF TOUR
Winona LaDuke -- human rights campaigner, Native American activist and former Green Party Vice-Presidential candidate -- is scheduled to join the kick-off tour in Minneapolis. She said: "Dennis Kucinich is a leader with integrity and demonstrated courage. His commitment to democracy, equity, constitutional rights, environmental justice and peace is honorable and longstanding. Building alliances between Indigenous peoples, peoples of color, and communities committed to environmental and social justice is key to building a true and sustaining society and democracy." Leading Democratic officials in Minnesota, ALLIES OF THE LATE PAUL WELLSTONE, will also join the tour.

David Bacon -- According to the Oct. 10 Associated Press:
"David Bacon, the Green Party's candidate for governor last year, says he plans to change his voter registration to the Democratic Party. He says he's switching so he can vote for presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich in the state Democratic caucuses in February." David will join the tour in Albuquerque, as will New Mexico state officials.

KUCINICH ACTS AGAINST ASSAULT WEAPONS
While a leading Democratic presidential candidate has long been supported by the National Rifle Association, Dennis Kucinich has become co-sponsor of legislation to renew and strengthen the federal assault weapons ban. Kucinich's support comes one year after the DC-area sniper attacks; the bill would ban all assault weapons, including the one used by the snipers.' Of the presidential candidates in Congress, only Richard Gephardt has joined Kucinich in co-sponsoring the legislation that has been introduced in both houses.

1. What's the saying?
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 12:05 PM by Bleachers7
If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, did it really happen. Is Kucinich just going to keep announcing until someone pays attention. He should be announcing his departure, not his entrance.

5. This is his first announcement
Last month Edwards and Kerry and Moseley-Braun announced even though they had been running much longer than Dennis.

21. Get a grip.
Dennis has never "announced" before now. So you accept the silence on the best candidate in the race as undefeatable, eh? Wuss. Some of us don't roll over and play dead so easily.

31. That's not fair to say.
DK has as much right as anyone. At least he's a REAL Democrat who stands with the Democratic platform, and would probably NEVER be asked to speak at the CATO Institute.

2. Dennis on MSNBC
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 12:09 PM by snoochie
MSNBC just showed a few seconds live from Cleveland. They mentioned his tour, also.

They said they were monitoring the speech and would go back for highlights, but now they're showing a press conference from Dallas on separated twins.

I'm sure Wellstone's spirit is watching him and is very proud of eveything Dennis is doing.

34. Dennis CAMPAIGNED FOR WELLSTONE IN 2002
Before Paul died, Dennis was up here in MN campaigning for Paul Wellstone, because he knew Paul would be up against Norm Coleman, the candidate hand-picked by Dick Cheney to run against Paul.

Dennis doesn't mention this because he's too modest, but I heard it from an ex-Wellstone person who now works for Kerry (likes Dennis, but needs the job a well-funded campaign can provide...).

Dennis and Paul are very alike in many ways-- as are their campaigns. I haven't felt this good about a candidate running for national office since.....Wellstone in 1990.

He's announcing HERE in Minneapolis tomorrow evening, and if things work out I may get to play my song before the announcement. I'll post details after the event (and post-event celebration!).

19. The LaDuke endorsement is not
completely "official" yet. Apparently her spoken word is her bond according to her cultural beliefs, but some folks in the campaign are hoping for something more concrete to distribute.

7. Oh how I wish
I could attend one of them! Thanks for posting this. Several friends who know how I feel about DK wrote to me today, said they had heard something and were sending condolences, they thought since he is so unpopular that he was dropping out. HA! Just goes to show you how much work we have to do, my guess is these folks wouldn't even know his name if it wasn't for me. I will send this along to them. We must get the word out since apparently when people hear him they mostly like him. He is working his rear off, we must continue to do the same.

10. dennis is a good guy, very passionate, but he does't have a chance
when I first heard of a Kucinich announcement today, i thought he was dropping out

it's good to have kucinich around, but let's not get too wrapped up with this guy, he doesn't have a chance and is not one of our major candidates.

I only pray that when Kucinich drops out, Nader doesn't jump in.

18. Sorry I'm been out there in the real world and Dennis is loved by
everyone who learns about him. He is the conscience of America and eveyone who sees him or who learns his positions loves him. Theildren love him. Seniors love him. Peace supporters love him. People with college educations love him. Ministers love him. Attorneys love him. Doctors love him. Engineers love him. Scientists love him. No one has as much of an impact on audiences as Dennis since Bobby Kennedy.

A person who is not a Kucinich supporter is a person who simply needs to open his eyes and see the man.

20. Wrong.
Most people light up when they hear about Kucinich. Then people like you come along and spout doom and gloom, defeat and fear, and poof whatever hope there might have been goes up in flames. I do hope you are so very proud of yourself.

Too chicken-sh*t to vote for him? Fine, but leave the rest of the population to do its will.

25. Nader
Nader will jump in if Kucinich doesn't get nomination! How much clearer can this point be made. This is what makes Kucinich more electable then the rest of the field. The 3-5% Nader will pull could make a diffence in WI, MN, NM, OR, AZ, etc. This is why Kucinich is the most electable. Very few appear to understand this, but its true.

35. Like I've said before, they said the same things about WELLSTONE in 1990.
I was a grassroots activist on the ground at the congressional district level back in 1990, when Paul first ran for Senate. There were many people with opinions like yours that spoke out against Paul then, too. "He's too shrill", "he doesn't look pretty", "he's too liberal", etc. Of course, most of them were named "Humphrey" or "Mondale" and had a vested interest in keeping one of their own in the Senate (rich, white, preferably a lawyer, etc).

But Dennis showed them. With our grassroots work, we flooded the caucuses, the county conventions, the congressional district conventions, and the state convention. Sitting on the convention floor for Paul's acceptance speech at the state convention in 1990 is one of the most memorable moments of my life.

Even then, the "Democrats" doubted he could win. But he was smart, even though he was outspent. He got his message out through some witty commercials and a lot of riding around the state in that green bus.

Dennis is the same type of person, running the same type of campaign. It's grassroots, below the radar, but catching on like wildfire. As I've been telling lots of people, there will be many suprises after Iowa. :)

If you think that Democrats would NOT be helped by adding even 8-10% to their rolls and their votes, I have a bridge to sell ya...

The former Green gubernatorial candidate in New Mexico is working for DK!!He pulled a lot of votes. DK is pulling in the disaffected because he believes in democratic principles, and DEMOCRATic principles!!

gotta buy the Albuquerque paper tomorrow. Could not make it to Albuquerque this time. GO DENNIS!!
