Edwards' $3 billion-a-year "College for Everyone" plan would provide one year of free tuition at state schools or community colleges for students who agree to work 10 hours a week. He described it as part of a larger effort to ensure today's children inherit a strong nation from their adult leaders.
"Every minute this president is in office, we get closer and closer to ending this basic bargain between the young and old," he said. "During the course of the last three years it's become harder and harder and harder for young people just like you to have the same chance I had, the opportunity to do what you're capable of doing. The good news is, it can be fixed."
The high school stop was one of four Edwards had scheduled around the state Tuesday in his effort to hold 100 town-hall meetings before the New Hampshire primary, tentatively set for Jan. 27. Despite his frequent visits, he was at only 3 percent in the latest poll of New Hampshire voters.
