Will Kerry just buy the nomination?
As the 3rd quarter fundraising numbers trickle out, it appears that Kerry's quarter was a miserable failure. His fundraising numbers declined dramatically from the second quarter. This could signal more declines in the 4th.

As Kerry is a very wealthy man, will he simply fund himself and buy the nomination?

Would that erase his "common man" persona with the voters?

Will voters resent a man who buys the vote?

Abd, no, his wife's fortune is off limits. That has already been decided by FEC rules. She is limited to the donation that we all are, $2000.00 per cycle. She is also limited in what she can lend the campaign.

Interesting turn of events...

4. Just curious, how many anti-Kerry threads do you start, on average
per day ?

Before anyone starts talking about Dean bashers, I have not said one syllable on this board against any candidate. I have gotten in a few pissing matches with some Kerry bashers, I will admit.

Like calling him a racist.

When the Kerry supporters here police their own, I'm sure the bashing will die away.

Until then...oh, well.

6. For the record...
Kerry is not a very wealthy man.

His wife is a very wealthy woman, with an iron-clad prenup and a standard $2000 donation limit on what direct aid she can provide to the Kerry campaign, in cash or in kind.

8. That's just dumb...
John Kerry was pretty much off the road last quarter with a few exceptions. He was, you know, doing his job and stuff. Now, if he were unemployed like a few of the other candidates then maybe he could ride around the country glad handing.

17. I pray every day that Dean
does not win the nomination - the pugs are praying he does. The kids and the radicals are Dean fans - they obviously haven't thought this thru from all aspects. The pugs are salivating about a Dean nomination and cringing about the Kerry nomination. Ask yourselfs WHY! Dean is easy pickins - Kerry has a fortitude of powerful history behind him and smarts going forward. Dean has fund raising history - amen.

19. Ah, so now you've quit trashing Wes Clark
long enough to unfairly tear into John Kerry. Debasing other candidates and shouting shrill insults does nothing to enhance your candidate. Its destructive and childish.

21. I know, I miss the reprieve we Kerry supporters got when Clark
entered the race. Dean supporters don't seem to be happy unless they are bashing someone. Because, ya know, Dean has never done anything wrong in his entire life. He's a saint and should be worshipped as such. Even true and documented problems with Dean are baseless attacks.

24. There are many reasonable Dean supporters who
do not fit that profile. Also, there have been Clark supporters who have reflected poorly on him in the past. And there have been a few cheap shots from the Kerry camp too.

We all need to respect each others candidates because they all want the same thing....to replace the *resident.

26. It's a valid question.
There are Senators who self funded. Jon Corazine for instance.

Will Kerry do it?

His third quarter numbers are shockingly bad.

Once they get the 3rd quarter reports in, they'll post them.

as of the 2nd quarter, the only candidate who has not taken any PAC money is John Edwards.

32. Actually, I think it's a good discussion point.
There is no law that prevents a candidate from self funding his campaign. Kerry has the assets to do it. The question becomes, would he? How would that play within the Party?

Should there be a FEC law that prevents wealthy candidates from buying the nomination?

It's interesting stuff...it's been done in the Senate.

Should all campaigns be federally funded?

Should all candidates get an equal amount to campaign with, and let the voters decide based on their positions, not their ability to advertise?

Kerry's wealth is NOT a negative, but it is a fact.

35. Kerry would not be buying the nomination
Even if he uses a great deal of his own money. That's a very unfair accusation sfecap. I would expect Dean to use however much of his own money as he needs to as well. (as I would any of our candidates if they have it)

We're going to be up against the Shrub juggernaut of campaign contributions. I only hope that Kerry's money can help the Dem nominee, even if it isn't him. We'll need all the help we can get!

36. But Kerry is unique..
...in that he has resources far in excess of any other of the candidates.

Historically the one who raises the most money gets the nomination.

It's something too think about...

The person who spends the most money is not always the winner. Don't believe me? Ask President Perot and President Forbes.
