DU Schweitzer for Montana
Let's win Montana for the Dems!! Brian Schweitzer is running for Governor in 2004 and has an excellent chance to win the state. If you've got a little extra, consider donating to his campaign. He's going to have a very difficult time competing with logging and mining companies and eastern ranchers. But I think we can give him a little DU boost every now and then and really make a difference. The campaign takes online checks or credit cards. Or just find out a little more about Brian.

1. This is going to be the year to turn things around in Montana.
Republicans have been in control for way too long and they've made a real mess. People are fed up with the dysfunctional state government. A strong campaign from Schweitzer and the right Presidential candidate and we could take Montana's electoral votes.

2. I agree
Montana should be a top target for the Democrats nationally. First off, it went overwhelmingly for Max Baucus last year (I know his opponent ran an awful campaign, but considering how close Baucus's last campaign was, this is a growing trend). Additionally, Schweitzer nearly beat Sen. Burns in 2000. If Gore had even attempted to campaign in Montana in 2000, we'd probably have a 50-50 Senate right now.

However, I think that Democrats will take a look at Montana in 2000. Schweitzer has no real primary opposition, while Repukes do (although most assume that Sec. of State Bob Brown will eventually get the nomination). I think we could take the governor's mansion (and with that the Lt. Governorship). Also, with a strong Democratic campaign, we should be able to take the Secretary of State's office. That leaves only Sen. Burns and Rep. Rehberg as statewide Republicans. Burns will probably go down to Atty. Gen. McGrath in 2006. We'll need a very strong candidate to take on Rehberg (someone like Nancy Keenan), but in a wave we could take it.

4. Best of luck!
Montana has great progressive traditions and a lot of potential. I think before too long it could even go for Democrat for president.

8. Schweitzer IS going to win.
In fact, he is also doing so great on the fundraising, that instead of contributing to his campaign, I would recommend contributing to the Montana Democratic party (http://www.mtdemocrats.org/) -- we need to take back the state legislature as well as the governors office if we want to turn things around here.
