Illinois Senate meetup numbers -- Wow!

Nationally, Illinois Democrats have 5 of the top 8 Senate meetup numbers, which remarkable since this is only a primary, and they are all from one state.

1. Barack Obama for Senate (>400 members)
2. Pat Toomey for Senate (>100)
3. Nancy Skinner for Senate (>100)
4. Blair Hull for Senate (78)
5. Gery Chico for Senate (55)
6. Charlie Crystle for Senate (53)
7. Barbara Boxer for Senate (48)
8. Dan Hynes for Senate (my guy ;) ) (48)

What can explain this? Why are Illinois Democrats more juiced up than other voters?
