Poll shows Dean has double-digit lead (NH)
Voters see Clark as best vs. Bush

Despite the recent entry of retired Army general Wesley Clark into the presidential race, Howard Dean still holds a solid lead in New Hampshire, according to the latest Monitor poll.

But in head-to-head matchups against President Bush, Clark fares better here than any other Democrat, though even he trails Bush by seven points.

The poll results also show a widening gap in New Hampshire between two tiers of candidates, with Dean, Sen. John Kerry and Clark polling in the double digits, and Rep. Dick Gephardt, Sen. Joe Lieberman and Sen. John Edwards showing little movement or losing support compared to earlier polls.

Dean won the support of one-third of likely primary voters, a 15-point lead over Kerry, who was favored by 18 percent of those polled. Clark followed in third, with 14 percent. The remaining six candidates scored in the single digits. Eighteen percent of voters said they had not yet made up their minds.

1. The description of the head-to-head portion of the poll is bs.

There's a 4% difference between all the candidates against Bush. The margin of error for the poll is 5%. Both Dean and Kerry are within 2% of Clark in the matchup against *. What this section of the poll says ... and the only thing it that can responsibly be said about it ... is that all of our candidates are within single digits of *.

on edit to correct a stat.

2. some one will come along and close this thread
They will copmplain it is a dupe, because there are so many polls out there showing Dean with a double-digit lead, it begins to get old... What's interesting in this poll is that Clark is taking points away from Kerry, while Dean remains solid. At what point does Kerry realize that it's not attacking Dean that is going to win it for him, but fending off Clark! It looks like this is really going to come down to Clark vs Dean, which is great for the Democratic Party.

4. Kerry's campaign is being run by idiots
They've been keeping with the same strategy for months, and Kerry's poll numbers have remained stagnant. You keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what your getting. If Kerry ever had a shot at winning the nomination, he lost it the last time people were complaining that Dean was 'peaking'.

a franklin pierce college poll released yeaterday also had Dean with a 14-point lead with remarkably similar numbers. But Clark's numbers are much better in this poll. In the FP College poll he had 6% here he is in double digtits.
