and anti-Dean supporter sentiments being expressed by a select few in this forum.

for the record, I'm not anti-Kerry by any means. I happen to think he'd make a great president.

3. hell, I am on Dean's list of supporters.....
and I am not voting for him.

I am also on the list of supporters for Kerry and for Kucinich.

So.........numbers of people 'signed up' doesn't not translate into 1 person/1 vote. Not by a longshot.

12. Maybe divide that by SIX for all the multiple donations for individuals?
I don't know...Dean's camp isn't real clear about how they count 'donations'. Bill Smith, for example, gives every time the bat goes up, and a few times in between. Does he count as 7 'donations'?

Who's to say? Dean ain't saying.

13. I believe you can get this info from the FEC filings
there were several articles that came out after the Q3 numbers were (officially) released pointing out that the total number of people contributing to Dean's campaign is second only to the number of people donating to Bush's (262,000 if I remember correctly).

14. The figures are from the FEC not Dean
and they do keep track, as they are legally obligated to do, of the total amount of money raised, the total number of different people who give money, and how much each gives. If they didn't then there would be no sense in having campaign limits now would there.

15. FEC gets its numbers from Dean's campaign
Individual contributors of less than $200 do not have to be reported. So if someone gives $25 a month for six months, it adds up to $150 and it does not have to be reported. Does Dean count it as one or as six contributions, we and probably you don't know.

What we do know is that when he says he has 400,000 plus supporters he is including people who have posted on his blog (whether they supported him or not) or got on his mailing list (including press and other campaigns) or signed one of the bogus campaign "petitions". So we know he is willing to puff up his numbers.

Now the one number he can't puff up is a great number, what he raised. And the one number he can't evade, what it cost to raise it, which is much too much.

As for the other numbers, take it with a grain of salt.

if so, please post some evidence to support your assertion.

until you do, I'll take your post(s) with a shaker full of salt.

20. He's not lying
Dean is not at all lying to the FEC. I don't doubt that he is following their rules to the letter, but there is no requirement to report smaller (under $200) donations. When you think about it, I hope none of the candidates are spending much time documenting small donations because they would be wasting time and money. There is no way for any of us to know if the Dean campaign is counting donors or individual donations.

On what exactly did you base your twice as many supporters as Kerry statement? That's pretty bold with out a link or solid proof.

by certain Kerry supporters that was taking place yesterday afternoon.

I have no facts at my fingertips to back up the claim made in the subject line.

25. No problem
No problem! :) I was actually more concerned that people would think that candidates not documenting/reporting small contributions were being shady, but in reality it's a sensible use of resources.

32. In theory
In theory candidates need to report individuals whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200. In practice it is next to impossible to keep track of small donations. If you were to contribute $5 over and over using the same credit card until you reached $200, then it would be easy to report your contributions. The problem is that many small contributors are likely to contribute $50 online, $50 at a house party, $50 in supplies, and another $50 passing the hat at a Meetup. Most people don't know what is an official donation or how to count the contributors. Using passing the hat as an example, it would be very difficult to determine how many people contributed and the exact amount per person.

Spending time and resources to figure out who has given $190 and who has given $210 is not sensible. I think as a whole all the Dem. candidate try to follow the guidelines whenever it's reasonable.

18. Maybe most Kerry supporters don't have any money to donate
which would make sense since he represents the poor and downtrodden a hellof a lot better than Dean.
Thes numbers are meaningless other than to boost and inflate the egos of Dean supporters.
(Which BTW apparently need a lot of inflating.)

21. Sure
Kerry's biggest problem is his inability to relate to people. I've been in close contact with the "downtrodden." Many of whom don't have advanced educations or even HS diplomas. I've asked them what they think of the candidates. Kerry sounds like a windbag to them. Dean, on the other hand, who uses short sentences and concise language is someone who they feel they can relate to.
This was the very same problem that created many of the "Bush Democrats" - who voted for the guy they'd feel comfortable having a beer with. Kerry supporters are banking on soldier worship to overcome that potential problem.

30. In the south and midwest?
dream on. I haven't met a single supporter here. I have met supporters for Gep, Dean, DK, and CLark. But not a single Kerry supporter have I met in Missouri. It's a bell weather state. Sort of mid western- sort of southern, and Kerry can't seem to court anyone.

28. I have to call the BS where I see it
John Kerry-True to his Massachusetts roots, the liberal senator appeals first to the young, urban liberals in Young Digerati and Bohemian Mix. But he also draws significant financial support from the wealthy suburban families found in Movers & Shakers, Blue Blood Estates and Beltway Boomers. Of his top-ten clusters for financial support, eight are found in the wealthiest fifth of all segments; he's apparently popular among "limousine liberals."

Howard Dean-The greatest number of donors to the former Vermont governor's campaign are the young, single citydwellers of Young Digerati and Bohemian Mix. But Dean still receives a disproportionate share of contributions from younger, exurban clusters like Young & Rustic and Mayberry-ville. Eight of his top ten clusters of support are in the small-town social group; seven of ten are home to young singles and couples. In addition, he draws contributions from the "granola crowd" of upscale rural residents from God's Country and Greenbelt Sports.

17. OT: I love typo'd and misspelled insults
On a Usenet group I used to read all the time, the classic was "idoits". Some troll stopped by one time to berate us all for being "idoits" and it stuck. We adopted the alternative spelling and used it for years.

Fantics and morans and idoits, oh my!:)
