I need research
For those of you who have not seen it, my opponent (Ralph Regula) has threatened to kill ALL money earmarked for Democtaric projects if Dems don't vote with the President on appropriations bills.

Welcome to fascism, Ralph. Enjoy it for the next year, because you're OUT after that.

I need DUers to find specific examples of projects for Dem districts that are threatened by this move. Anything that MIGHT be hurt by this will be good for my press statement.

Is there a halfway house that won't be built? A children's shelter that will have to close? A battered women's home that will face the wrecking ball? I need to pin those to Ralpie's partisan crap.

Thanks...now go get 'em? Please?

Here's the article on Regula's threat....

GOP axes Dems’ earmarks
Regula to punish opponents of Labor-HHS bill
By Hans Nichols

The House Republican leadership has endorsed an effort by Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Ohio), an appropriations cardinal, to punish Democrats en masse for their blanket opposition to the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education spending package.

Regula’s plan to redirect all potential Democratic earmarks to vulnerable Republicans would breathe new life into a principle that Republican leaders have long wanted their more accommodating appropriators to enforce: If Democrats vote against appropriations bills, they shouldn’t expect special projects earmarked for their districts.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) suggested that the potential punishment might be “criminal.”

“This could be — this could be — I don’t know, these kinds of threats, do they border on the criminal?” she said.

Rep. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), the Democratic Caucus chairman, called it “a clear declaration of war.”

1. Here's what we need
We're always fighting for dredging funds on the coast, so I looked that up and found this letter. Overlook the commercial timber comment, I think it's in there just to point out that program won't work anyway. Otherwise, this hits a few Oregon issues. We have alot of rivers, therefore alot of bridges.

3. Uhm, DeFazio...
I'm sure you just overlooked that it was his site. If you have time, you might want to look over some of his policy statements, etc. He is smart, communicative and always on the correct side of every issue. If it's still in there, read what he was saying about the surplus and social security back in the late 90's. He's a fighter for the people, every step of the way.

Next time, I'll try not to have a moron sandwich for lunch.
