Repug French-bashing: Could this help us carry Louisiana next year?
A lot of people think that the South is un-winnable, because conventional wisdom says that the South goes for * no matter what. But, * and the neo-cons have been bashing the French non-stop for over a year now. I think that Cajuns could be getting upset with this. Could the PNAC's arrogance help us get Louisiana?

1. Cajuns are not 100% French
Some speak French, or a kind of French, since Louisiana was originally a French Colony. A lot of Cajuns are part Mexican, part black, part Okie-Arkie, and part Texican. In other words, they're a mixture like anywhere else in the South, or the United States for that matter.

2. Living in the heart of Cajun Country
If we go Dem down here, it won't be because of the French bashing. A significant portion of the Cajuns here were "French bashing" with the best of them. What does seem to be getting people's attention is Bush's cuts in veterans programs, social welfare programs (TANF) and increased consumer costs for Medicare/Medicaid, while services are being cut. The veterans in particular are getting really pissed, and if Bush doesn't do something to smooth things over with this group, they have stated that they will actively work against him in the next election.

3. It depends
If the French supported Bush by a lot last time, and they turn on him, we could very well take Louisiana. However, if Gore won the French vote there, there wouldn't be much more to gain. Probabbly some, but not much.
